On Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Africa, in collaboration with UPF Benin and the Youth Department of FFWPU-Benin, hosted a series of commemorative and recreational activities to celebrate World Football Day and Africa Day. Starting at 1:30 PM, the event brought together more than 100 participants in a warm, fraternal, and festive atmosphere.
Key Highlights of the Celebration
The day’s program was filled with meaningful initiatives aimed at fostering unity and development:
- World Cup Send-off: A commemorative ceremony was held at the Peace Embassy to show support for the 10 African national teams qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
- Project Launch: The event marked the official launch of the “Play Soccer, Make Peace” (PSMP) project.
- March for Peace: Participants took part in a public march advocating for a harmonious new beginning for both Benin and the wider African continent.
- Peace Football Match: A friendly tournament was organized on a local field in Godomey.

The event was graced by several prominent leaders and dignitaries whose inspiring speeches and active participation greatly contributed to the day’s success:

Commemoration and Community Spirit
During the formal portion of the event, a raffle draw added excitement, rewarding several participants with custom t-shirts and keychains featuring the event’s logo.
The celebration concluded on the pitch with two exciting football matches—the first ending in a hard-fought draw, and the second finishing with a decisive 3-0 score.
A Symbolic Finish: Despite a heavy downpour during the games, the players, supporters, and leaders remained fully engaged and energized until the very end. The rain only added to the memorable, resilient, and symbolic atmosphere of the historic day.
