Beloved members,
Yesterday, several media outlets published distorted reports that were rooted in religious bias and lacking a sufficient basis in fact. We understand that these reports may have caused deep hurt and distress among many of our members. The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Korean Headquarters strongly urges the media to uphold fairness and accuracy in their reporting. We will take active steps to prevent further misguidance of the public resulting from this kind of one-sided speculation that disregards the truth.

Statement on Media Coverage Concerning Sun Moon University

Recent media reports have alleged that Sun Moon University misused government funding to support “Unification Church missionary activities.” This claim is categorically false.

Sun Moon University lawfully applied for and was selected to participate in various government-funded initiatives, including university innovation programs and the LINC (Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation) project, all administered by the Ministry of Education. All funds were transparently allocated for educational purposes and subjected to rigorous audits and financial oversight. Not a single won of public funding has ever been used for religious proselytizing or missionary work.

For example, the so-called “Ukraine Mission Project,” highlighted by the media, was a student-led team project selected as a presentation topic in a capstone design course in the Department of Theology. The project involved less than 100,000 KRW in basic expenses, such as materials and meeting costs. Misrepresenting this academic exercise as “overseas missionary funding” constitutes a malicious distortion that frames legitimate scholarly activity as religious proselytization and reflects clear discriminatory reporting aimed at targeting religiously affiliated universities. Equating legitimate academic work and student mentorship with attempts to “expand religious influence” constitutes a violation of both religious and academic freedom.

Unfair Reporting Is Religious Persecution

The core of the current issue stems from the personal misconduct of a former leader responsible for global missions, who acted independently in attempting an unlawful solicitation. The Family Federation has taken this matter seriously, engaging in deep reflection and actively implementing reforms to address organizational vulnerabilities, reinforce ethical leadership, and ensure financial transparency.

Despite this, certain media outlets have irresponsibly portrayed the entire Family Federation as an entity involved in illegal activities, seeking to implicate even unrelated corporations, schools, and organizations as if they were complicit. Such reporting—devoid of basic fact-checking and driven by religious bias—amounts to religious persecution and gravely infringes upon the rights of countless individuals who are seeking to freely practice their faith.

Freedom of religion is a constitutional right, and any one-sided reporting that undermines this freedom is unacceptable. The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Korean Headquarters formally demands corrections to these distorted narratives and will not hesitate to pursue legal action when necessary.

Dear beloved members,

Yesterday, a significant gathering took place outside the Seoul Detention Center, where approximately 300 religious leaders from the Korean Clergy Leadership Conference (KCLC) and the Korea Religions Association united in a call to end investigations targeting religions based on prejudice, and to demand fair, unbiased media coverage. This is not a matter confined to one denomination—it is a collective stand to safeguard religious freedom and uphold justice in Korean society.

True Mother said, “It may take time, but the truth will surely be revealed.”
And she has told us that we must stand unwaveringly on the side of truth and walk this path with dignity. When we devote ourselves fully to revealing the truth, Heavenly Parent and True Parents will surely guide us along the path of victory.

사실에 근거한 공정 보도를 촉구하며
  사랑하는 식구님,
  어제 하루 동안 여러 언론에서 아무런 근거 없이, 종교적 편견에 기초한 왜곡된 보도들이 이어졌습니다. 이러한 보도를 접하신 식구님들께서 깊은 마음의 상처와 무거움을 느끼셨으리라 생각합니다. 한국협회는 언론이 더 이상 사실을 외면한 채 일방적 추측으로 여론을 호도하지 않도록, 사실에 근거한 공정한 보도를 강력히 요청하며 대응해 나갈 것입니다.

  선문대학교 관련 보도에 대한 입장
  일부 언론은 선문대학교가 정부의 재정지원을 받아 ‘통일교 포교 활동’에 사용했다는 의혹을 제기하였습니다. 그러나 이는 명백한 허위 보도입니다. 선문대학교는 교육부가 주관하는 각종 대학혁신사업과 LINC(산학협력) 사업 등 정부 공모사업에 정당하게 신청·선정되었으며, 지원금은 모두 교육 목적에 따라 투명하게 집행되었습니다. 감사 절차와 정산을 거친 공적 예산은 단 한 푼도 교단의 선교나 종교 활동에 사용된 사실이 없습니다.
  예를 들어 언론이 문제 삼은 ‘우크라이나 선교프로젝트’의 경우, 신학과 캡스톤디자인 수업 중 학생들이 발표 주제로 선택한 팀 프로젝트로, 회의비나 재료비 등 약 10만 원 미만의 팀 예산이 사용되었습니다. 이를 ‘해외 선교사업비’로 왜곡하여 보도한 것은 학생들의 학문적 활동을 종교 포교로 몰아가는 악의적 프레임이자, 종립대학에 대한 명백한 차별 보도입니다. 교육기관의 정당한 학문활동과 학생지도를 ‘교세 확장’으로 매도하는 것은 종교의 자유와 학문의 자유 모두를 침해하는 일입니다.

  불공정 보도는 종교 탄압입니다
  현재의 사안의 본질은 교단의 선교 책임자였던 한 개인이 개인적 판단으로 불법 청탁을 시도한 것입니다. 가정연합은 이미 이러한 개인적 일탈이 일어난 것을 깊이 성찰하며, 조직의 구조적 문제를 바로잡고 지도자 윤리와 회계 투명성을 강화하는 쇄신 작업을 이어오고 있습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 일부 언론은 가정연합 전체를 불법조직처럼 묘사하고, 교단과 무관한 법인·학교·단체들까지 한꺼번에 불법에 연루된 것으로 보도하고 있습니다.
  이는 사실 확인조차 거치지 않은 편향된 시각의 종교탄압이며, 자유롭게 신앙생활을 하는 수많은 식구들의 권리를 위축시키는 심각한 행위입니다. 종교의 자유는 헌법이 보장한 국민의 기본권이며, 이를 침해하는 일방적 보도는 결코 용납될 수 없습니다. 한국협회는 왜곡된 보도에 대해 정정 요청과 함께, 필요 시 법적 대응도 주저하지 않을 것입니다.

  사랑하는 식구님, 
  어제 서울구치소 앞에는 뜻깊은 방문이 있었습니다. 한국기독교성직자협의회(KCLC)와 한국종교협의회 소속 종교지도자 약 300명이 함께 모여, 편견에 근거한 종교 탄압 수사의 중단과 공정한 보도를 촉구했습니다. 이것은 특정 종단의 문제가 아니라, 대한민국의 종교자유와 공정한 사회를 지키기 위한 외침이었습니다.
  참어머님께서는 “시간이 걸릴 수 있지만, 진실은 반드시 드러난다”고 말씀하셨습니다. 그 말씀처럼 우리는 흔들림 없이 진실의 편에 서서 당당하게 이 길을 걸어가야 합니다. 우리가 진실을 밝히기 위한 정성을 다할 때, 하늘부모님과 참부모님께서 반드시 승리의 길로 이끌어 주실 것입니다.
