Senegal: Inauguration of Youth and Students for Peace

On January 19, 2019, Youth and Students for Peace in Senegal was launched in the bigest Auditorium of University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar. A total number of 865 people participated. As VIPs attending, there was the Director of programs and curriculum at the Ministery of Education, President of National Youth Council of Senegal, 5 Tops Faculty Presidents, President of UPF Mr. Dethie Diouf (who gave full time support to organize the event), Mediators of Dakar and Ziguinchor universities, Principals and Directors of secondary schools, Students leaders, youth community leaders of Tivaouane Peulh and the Mouride and 17 medias (TV stations, Newspappers and Radio). It started with welcoming remarks from Professor Ndiacé DIOP, mediator of Dakar University after prayers by an Imam and a Bishop. Mr Modou Sall, a youth leader, member of YSP gave a thankful remark as president of organizing committee.

Also, the winners of S!NERGY, which is a speech contest held the previous day, showed their talents during the inauguration. Their presentations and their passion to solve social issues has created a very warmth atmosphere.

Prof Ndongo, an eminent Social Sciences Profesor of 30 years of experiences in peace studies and conflicts resolution across Africa and first Ambassador for Peace in Senegal gave a wonderful speech to testify the work of True Parents in terms of peacebuilding. He emphasized that we need to find the key to repair the broken family if we want to save this world.

Philbert Seka, President of YSP in Africa, gave the inaugural message saying that : ..YSP in Senegal has to raise future global leaders who will not belong to Senegal only but with the interest of serving the 5 continents with global perspectives to tackle the challenges of our Planet. To give a chance, hope and see the development of our villages, communities, nations throughout the principles of interdependence, mutual prosperity and universal values.

Later on, Mr Koji Matsuda, International Senior Vice President of YSP gave the keynote address presenting YSP and its activities throughout the world. During his presentation, Vice President Koji said that : “If everyone gathered here today becomes the owner of YSP and expand the projects and character education, the culture of this nation will change to progressive and peaceful culture.

Japan was in tragedy after World War, even Korea as well. In my hometown Hiroshima, every building was collapsed in a second and there was nothing. But it was developed dramatically in these 70 years. Japanese and Korean made effort for family, nation, and the world even in the severe situation. And that made nation developed. Our mindset is important. It is important to keep effort with a dream for social contribution and with faith of development.”

The faculty leaders from the 5 universities are determined to follow YSP’s vision and establish YSP in each university. They received certificates of Youth Ambassador for Peace. Khadim Diop, President of National Youth Council said he wants to conclude MOU with YSP to make regular activities.The National Youth Council in Senegal is in charge of 17000 youth and students organizations. At the end, Cheikkena Lam, The Director of Programs and Curriculum at the Ministery of Education mentioned during closing remarks that he is ready to make the curriculum of education for peace with YSP. It was a memorable ceremony that All the university leaders and youth leaders gathered in a place and headed toward the same direction for the peace.

Noted that this launching is the fruit of a UPA graduate Kenta Kishi and 2 young Japaneese sisters who are missionaries in Senegal in teamwork with Senegal second generation and youth, advised by the National Leader Dr Abdou Gaye. They work tirelessl yday after day giving all (time, energy, resources, knowledge…) for the success of the launching.

For your good memories, the inauguration of YSP in Senegal commemorated the first anniversary since True Mother appointed a Regional President to start YSP in Africa during Her visit to Dakar for Africa Summit in the exact date.
