Regarding the request for an order to dissolve the legal corporation of the Japanese Family Federation for World Peace and Unification
For almost 70 years, the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (hereinafter referred to as the Family Federation) has been actively working, in as many as 190 countries, for the realization of a world of lasting peace. The approach has been supra-religious, supranational, and supra-ideological, based upon a vision of good families living in accordance with God’s will. The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification in Japan (hereinafter called the Japan Family Federation) was incorporated in 1964. Since then, under the guidance of a responsible board of directors, its activities have sought to reflect its philosophy that people should live in service to others, and to advance the ideal of exemplary families contributing to a world of peace.
Over the past year, issues related to the Family Federation have been raised, and on October 12, 2023, the Japanese government announced its intention to file a court application for an order for the dissolution of the Japanese Family Federation as a religious organization. Our hearts saddened by this, and we make the following statement:
First of all, we would like to express our deepest regret at the decision to request a dissolution order against the Japan Family Federation. In each country, corporations must operate in accordance with the laws of that country. Likewise, the legally incorporated Japan Family Federation must operate according to Japanese law, and we wish to be examined and judged fairly.
Second, the freedom to love and believe in God is of paramount importance. Freedom of religion, freedom of thought, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly and association are human rights to dignity that should be protected in every country. We hope that the faith, prayer, and meetings of Family Federation believers in Japan will not be restricted, that their freedoms and rights as citizens will not be violated because they are members of the Family Federation, and that they will never suffer discrimination, persecution, or damage to their human rights due to hatred and prejudice.
Third, the Family Federation is a community dedicated to living with and loving God as our Parent, living a righteous life to emulate God who is the embodiment of true love, forming families under the blessing of marriage, and striving for the well-being and happiness of those around us, for our nation’s prosperity, and for peace throughout the world.
The Family Federation considers Japan to be a special nation. Since the end of World War II, Japan has achieved freedom, peace, and development, and quietly laid a foundation contributing to world peace. We express our gratitude and admiration to the Japanese people for their continued efforts for global development in the fields of economics, science, and culture.
All members of the Japan Family Federation are dear to our hearts, and we have always prayed for their happiness. Every time we meet members from Japan and their children, their faces are bright, beautiful, and virtuous.
In contrast to this, we are saddened and sorrowful when we hear stories of members and their families who feel frustrated, marginalized, unhappy, suffering, or bitter for any reason or circumstance. We regret that we were unable to adequately protect the well-being of all Japanese members, and that we have been unable to preserve the trust of society. Family Federation International Headquarters has a sense of moral responsibility to guide and cooperate with our churches around the world. God’s love embraces all people, and we wish for the happiness of all humankind.
We will once again thoroughly examine whether members and their families are feeling marginalized or unhappy in the Family Federation, not only in Japan but also throughout the world. In addition, we will actively support and cooperate and comply with the various policies promoted by the Japan Family Federation, reforming our churches, and improving the happiness of believers, and we will create a church culture that Japanese society will come to trust.
Going forward, we will continue to do our best to create a better world.

일본 세계평화통일가정연합에 대한 법인해산명령 청구와 관련하여
세계평화통일가정연합(이하 가정연합)은 하나님의 뜻을 중심하고 이상가정을 기반으로 한 초종교초국가 초이념으로 평화세계 실현을 위해 지난 70년동안 전세계 190여개 국가에서 전심전력을 기울여 왔습니다. 특히 일본 세계평화통일가정연합(이하 일본 가정연합)은 1964년의 법인설립 이후 책임임원회의 지도하에 참사랑을 중심한 위하여 사는 삶과 참가정운동의 추진을 통한 세계평화실현을 위한 활동을 전개해 왔습니다.
그러나 작년 이후 가정연합과 관련된 다양한 이슈가 제기되는 가운데, 2023년 10월 12일 일본 정부가 일본 가정연합에 대한 종교법인 해산명령 청구를 법원에 신청한다고 발표했습니다. 이에 대하여 무거운 마음으로 다음과 같은 입장을 밝힙니다.
첫째, 일본 가정연합에 대한 법인해산명령 청구가 결정된 것에 대해서 깊은 유감의 뜻을 표명합니다. 각국의 법인운영은 각국의 법률에 따라서 운영되어야 합니다. 일본 가정연합의 법인운영은 일본의 법률을 따라야 하며, 본 법인해산명령 청구도 공정하게 심사 받고 판단되기를 바랍니다.
둘째, 하나님을 믿고 사랑하는 자유는 인간에 있어서 가장 중요하며, 종교의 자유, 사상의 자유, 언론의 자유, 집회와 결사의 자유는 모든 국가에서 보호받아야 할 인간의 존엄입니다. 일본에 있어서 가정연합 신도들의 신앙과 기도, 집회의 장이 제한되거나, 또한 가정연합의 신도라는 이유로 국민으로서의 자유와 권리가 침해되거나 가정연합에 대한 맹목적인 증오와 편견으로 인한 차별이나 핍박, 인권 침해 등이 절대로 발생하지 않기를 바랍니다.
셋째, 가정연합은 하나님을 부모로 모시고 사랑하며, 참사랑의 실체인 하나님을 닮아 위하여 사는 삶을 실천하며, 축복된 결혼을 통해서 이상 가정을 이루고, 주변 이웃들의 행복, 국가의 번영과 세계평화를 위해 살아가는 것을 목표로 하는 공동체입니다.
본 연합 입장에서 볼 때 일본은 특별한 나라입니다. 2차 대전 후의 일본은 자유와 평화와 발전을 이루며, 세계평화의 기틀을 마련하기 위해 노력해왔습니다. 또한 일본국민들이 경제, 과학, 문화 등을 통한 세계의 발전에 지속적으로 공헌해왔다는 사실에 감사를 표합니다.
우리는 일본을 사랑하고 언제나 일본국민의 행복을 위해서 기도해 왔습니다. 일본의 신도들과 그 자녀들을 만날 때마다 그 표정은 한결같이 밝고 아름답고, 고결했습니다.
여러 사정과 이유로 인해 좌절, 소외, 불행과 고통을 느껴왔던 신도와 그 가족들의 이야기를 들을 때마다 안타까움을 느꼈습니다. 이렇게 일본 신도들의 행복과 사회적 신뢰를 지키지 못한 것에 대해 매우 유감스럽게 생각합니다. 이에 전세계 교단을 영적으로 지도하고 협조해야 할 가정연합 세계본부의 입장으로서 도의적 책임을 실감하고 있습니다. 하나님의 사랑은 만민 위에 펼쳐지고 있으며, 우리는 온 인류가 행복하기를 희망합니다.
일본뿐만 아니라, 세계 각국의 가정연합에 있어서 신도와 그 가족분들이 소외감이나 불행을 느끼고 있지 않을지 다시금 철저하게 검토하겠습니다. 또한 그 동안 일본 가정연합이 추진해 온 컴플라이언스의 철저와 교회개혁, 신도의 행복도 향상 등을 위한 다양한 정책을 적극적으로 지지, 협조하여, 일본사회로부터 신뢰를 받을 수 있는 새로운 교회문화를 함께 만들어 가겠습니다.
