In conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of the launching of Peace Road International, the Universal Peace Federation Malaysia organized two Peace Road events with the local theme of “Connect for inclusiveness” in Kuala Lumpur city center and Penang Island on August 6th, 2023.
In Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, the Peace Road Fun Run was held in support of the KL Car Free Morning, a green initiative by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur to promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce carbon emissions. More than 500 participants joined a non-competitive run or walk of 7km along the streets of the city center to celebrate multi-ethnic togetherness and peace. The event also saw 30 participants with special needs who turned up in wheelchairs with family members to join the peaceful morning stroll.
The Peace Road event successfully gathered various communities from 18 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) including Rotary Club District 3300, World Humanitarian Drive (WHD), and the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN). After the walk, participants also enjoyed youthful energetic dances and martial arts performances by the youths, followed by a lucky draw.
Meanwhile, further up north in the state of Penang, Ambassadors for Peace of UPF also worked hand-in-hand with local communities in bringing a crowd of 120 for a fun walk in Batu Uban residential area. The peace walk was supported by the state government, represented by State Assemblyman of Batu Uban, Honorable. A. Kumaresan, who emphasized the need for tolerance, harmonious cooperation, and mutual prosperity between communities to achieve sustainable peace in his opening speech. 12 local NGOs including children from a nearby care center also participated in the peaceful walk.
