Father’s speech on November 29, 1975 at Unification Theological Seminary, Barrytown, New York
In the Life of faith, what concerns religious people most is how to go the path: corresponding with. the will of their God or founder. Besides Buddhism, Confucianism, Islam and Christianity, there are many other religions, including national religions centered on a race. Although each religion has a different founder and is going a different path, the original center is one God. We have to gather together from all over and finally unite into one, centered upon God. The conclusion is that we must unite.
After we become one, it does not matter through what religion you came; neither does your race or historical background matter. For all to become one, centered on God, is the issue. I am not concerned about things that are easy to unite but about things that are hard to unite.
What would be the difficult elements to unite during the Last Days in order to attain the will of God? Racial problems will become a primary matter of concern. After all, the issue of black and white is an extremely important concern.
Therefore, in order for a religion to move toward oneness centered on God, its religious view must transcend the racial issue. If all were to gather in the presence of God, a religion which could not keep in step with others in harmonizing the races would appear to be a backward religion. What kind of religion will be able play the central role in bringing unity before God? A religion that keeps a standard which transcends nation and race.
From this point of view, Christianity had to fulfill the historical mission to bring all races into unity. Although Christianity has become a worldwide religion and people of numerous races are Christians, it has been unable ultimately to fulfill this mission; it did not live up to the spirit of its founder. The issue of black and white remains a matter of concern today. That this is the matter God likes least.
Culture is the next problem. The particular cultures of each race or each state are a matter of concern. According to the cultural background, the natural features of life will differ. We must set up one way of life centered on God-one harmonized, common culture in which all people can find joy. The differences which the various cultures have nursed throughout history block the way, and a complicated problem remains unsolved.
There have been numerous cultures in the world, but we should not be distracted by the great number. If we look broadly, they can be bundled into two groups: the Western culture and the Eastern culture. They are greatly divided, to say the least. Furthermore, the communist culture has recently entered the scene.
If these are the Last Days, during which the world can be unified centered on one God, culture must be unified based upon the standard which transcends race and bridges the gap between East and West. Contradictory claims such as, “Eastern culture is better,” and “Western culture is better,” become an issue.
Religion itself is the next problem. People tend to hold fast to the faith that they have believed in, centered on its founder. People are educated to believe that “only through this will we become one with God,” and it becomes the tradition. This surely will become a matter of concern. Other matters of concern include private ownership, possession of wealth, and knowledge, but these are of little consequence.
Discard what we have regarded important
What does this all mean? In the Last Days, matters of the greatest importance and value to organizations, states and individuals will acquire great significance in deciding our life and death. In that decision, all the matters that we regarded important will become obstacles.
If you loved your parents, you will say, ” My goodness! I had better stay with my parents.” Next, you will say, “Ah! I will have to stay with my beloved wife and children, as well as with my relatives.” Do you think such concerns can be accepted?
For that reason, issues that people throughout history regarded important will become serious obstacles along our path. When these most valued things block our path to unity with God, it is indeed the Last Days.
Since God foreknows this, He cannot help thinking about how to solve it. God tried to solve this by giving the people something which makes them disregard all other values. The solution automatically comes when people can say, “The state has been considered important, but what is that? Culture has been regarded to be important, but what is that? I have considered my wife and children important, but what are they? I have centered upon my family, but what is that?” This is the way to solve such matters of concern. If it is possible for what is scattered to unite, if it is possible to be one with God’s name, then God can solve the problem and make a new start.
Therefore, we can conclude that in the Last Days God will inspire people to disregard things of human value in order to assemble in front of Him. When the Lord comes, do you think people can embrace and unite with each other while towing around all this baggage? Can they become one by pushing and shoving things around, or should they ignore and abandon for the sake of unity everything they once valued? Which one is easier? (The latter.)
When people start ignoring everything, they wind up ignoring even God and Satan! They do not care anymore. We will become like that. (Laughter.) The time of extreme darkness is also the time of greatest hope.
Through such chaos hope will arise. At the crossing point, the two trends of thought will disappear, a confusing age of darkness will descend, and a new beginning will occur. We will pass through such a time. Until this time of crossing people live in the sphere of the fall.
Is America God’s country? Is it Satan’s country? You do not know, do you? When asked then who America belongs to, I do not know if it is Satan’s America or God’s America. You are the master of this country.
The eternal being is master of this land
When you reflect about this land, you realize that it is eternal. How many years does a person last? Less than one hundred years. Does it make sense for people who will not last even a century to try to rule over land which lasts eternally?
If the land could speak, it would shout, “Hey, you idiot! Why did you little chicken-dropping come and make such a racket?” I am sure it would say that. (Laughter.) If you then ask the land, “Excuse me, land, how old are you?” you will know its age. I am sure that the land itself knows how long it has existed. If asked whether it prefers an older or younger master, of course it would say it prefers an older one.
Since the land wishes to have an eternal being as its master, for someone who will last less than a century to claim mastery is robbery. American people are like thieves and robbers in front of the land. Do you think the land likes to be possessed by such people? American people, do you think the land likes to be ruled by snobs who cannot even last one hundred years? If an eternal and absolute being were to ask the land who it wants for a master, the land will answer, “Why do you need to ask? Of course, I will take that eternal and absolute being as my master.”
Man is the medium between heaven and earth
What is man? Where does man come from? (God.) Did you see man being created from God? Our body came out of the earth, but our mind cannot have come from the earth. Where is its origin? It must have a root, which also must serve as its master. The mind cannot be a result without an origin. Logically, there must be an origin.
The mind and body form a dual structure. Since mind and body are dual structures, when they unfold, two worlds begin. Therefore, in the Last Days, materialistic and spiritualistic ideologies inevitably emerge. The problems of this world can be reduce to the dual structure of democracy and communism, or idealism and materialism. As if one human were projected onto the world stage, democracy and communism are acting out an ideological drama in order to resolve the problem of one human being.
Which aspect, internal or external, is the center? If the mind is subject and the body object, why do they fight? This is the problem. If person is born with a dual structure, as a representative of the physical and spiritual realms, why is unity not possible? Why did people with such conflicting natures emerge? The earth wants to expel such people because they live for only one hundred years, and all things hate them! Why did God, the center of conscience, create us? God made man with material from the earth. It says in the Bible that God made man with dust of the earth and blew His spirit into him. God and the earth must have worked together toward a common purpose. What would be this purpose?
Can God, a spiritual being, make a relationship with the earth? In order to set up a bridge over which God and the earth can communicate, a medium is required. Both God and the earth need such a medium. To be such a medium is not a bad position, because however lofty God is, He cannot relate to the earth without human beings. Likewise, the earth cannot go before God without human beings. What purpose, then, will this medium serve?
Your mind and body are fighting, aren’t they? (Yes.) Although you are one person, aren’t you pursuing two roads? (Yes.) Why did a work of the Absolute God become divided? Does God sway from one direction to another? Something must have gone wrong.
Do you like to be in so much conflict? (No.) Is conflict something God intended? (No.) Would the earth want it? (No.) If nobody planned for conflict to emerge, something must have gone wrong. Simply from this perspective, even without reference to the Bible, we can conclude that people have done something wrong. Without reasoning carefully, religions concluded that people fell, that something is out of order. If it is so, then it must be fixed. In order to fix it, we need the blueprint for the original state of affairs. The original blueprintthat is the problem.
Absolute love brings unity with God
Consider why God created man. Did He do so because He just liked creating things? No. It was not just to gaze upon man, either. He created for the sake of love. You must know this. Today, Christians think that since God is love, He can love by Himself. Ladies and gentlemen, do women alone have love? Do men alone have love? (Laughter.) However loud a woman cries out by herself, “I have love, my love, my love!” without a reciprocal relationship, there is no love. This is the principle. The force of love can operate only in the relationship of subject and object. Without a relationship of subject and object, love cannot appear; even if it exists, it cannot manifest itself. When a man rejoices holding a small picture of a woman, this is normal. If he does it when there is nothing there, this is crazy.
Suppose God were to say to Himself, “Oh, my love, my love, my love!” He would be crazy. If there is no object of love, an object must be sought. Why then did God create man? To find love. This is something religions never even dreamed of. Thus, the conclusion is that the Absolute God absolutely needs human beings to find love. Are human beings subject or object? Object. As objects to the absolute God, we are absolutely needed. We can say, “God has no choice. He needs me. In order to find love, He has to come to me.”
Now let us consider why the earth cooperated with God in the creation of man. What is the common interest of God and the earth? They each said, “I need love, and so do you, so let us create man, with whom we both can rejoice.” They agreed and created man. To complete the theme of love is the common purpose of God and the earth. Therefore, they cooperated in the creation of humankind. This is a reasonable and idealistic conclusion. God is glad, the earth is glad, and what about humankind? We are glad, too. We can conclude that to complete the common purpose, God, the earth and humankind are moving toward the decisive result, centering on people. The problem is, what can create oneness? Only absolute love, which God, the earth and human beings desire.
We are born in order to harvest love
We are born to complete the purpose of love and to harvest cosmic love. We are born to harvest God’s love and to harvest love as the earth’s subject. Have you ever thought of this? You may say, “I live for the sake of knowledge, so I should go to college.” Which do you need more, knowledge or love? (Love.) Do you need money or love? (Love.) Do you need power or love? (Love.) Do you need life itself or love? (Love.)
If you reach this conclusion, would God call you a rascal, or would He be glad? Would the earth rejoice or grieve? Everyone will rejoice. No one ever dreamed that people are born and live to complete cosmic love. Thus, by perfecting myself, God can be liberated from His search for love, and the earth can be liberated from the search for its master’s love. Finally, humankind can be happy because it has completed its task. Thus, the perfection of cosmic love depends not only upon God but also upon people. This explains Jesus’ remark that one life is of greater value than the cosmos. Is this not enough to make us proud? (It is enough.) By establishing love, the rights of people and of the universe are attained.
Have you tasted God’s love? (Yes.) How is it? Is it delicious? It combines the best of all flavors. One can grasp it and hold onto it endlessly. Centering on love, we can fill up anything and reach everywhere.
Do lovers embrace to express their love, or do they just shake hands? They want to be embraced so hard that their eyes pop out and fluid comes out of their noses and mouths. That is how I understand it. (Laughter.) Those gentlemen should know because they have been in love! When you embrace, you cannot stay still. You spin around. The universe will turn around only when it becomes one with love.
When you are intoxicated with love, all your senses become one. There is no other place to go. The cells of the eyes, nose, ears and body will all be concentrated on one point. Do you understand? (Yes.) Should it be so? (Yes.) Even God joins in with this fierce intoxication of love. When the Absolute God loves, does He say, “Oh, since I am absolute, I will do just this much and no more?” The Absolute God, too, will act like this with His eyes wide open (Father acts it out). Imagine how strong this will be. (Laughter.) Even the Absolute God, however, cannot control the power of love. Love is stronger than anything else. When it comes to love, all of God’s nerves and powers are concentrated. God even gets spaced out when it comes to love!
Think about your first love. Even fallen people talk about living and dying for love. How intensely will God react to the taste of love? He will say that He needs love even at the cost of His life. God is like us. If God finds an object of such love, He will sing and dance like crazy until the whole of heaven and earth vibrate noisily. When God rejoices, America, Korea and the whole earth will hear a big explosion and rock as if it were traveling on a roller coaster. Does this sound probable? (Yes.) What will be the most joyous day for the earth? The earth longs for the day of love, when it can rejoice in the places touched by God’s hands and feet. Don’t you want this? (We want it!)
People like to go to a party hosted by the president. Is that really a big deal? Do you want to attend God’s party? (Yes.) You all have invitations already. All the invitations were sent out before time began. Did you know that you received invitations? You did not even realize it. You rascals, you should know that you received the invitations. Anybody can go. You should know that God has already sent you an invitation to the banquet of love and you possess it. It is certain. Are you glad? (Yes.) You are greedy! (Laughter.)
Why are we born? To harvest the true love of God and the universe. No one, no religious leader or philosopher, had ever thought about this. Do you know that? From now on, we should actualize God’s love. This is the most joyful word.
Love is fulfilled when we give our whole self
There may be people here who were disappointed that they could not attend the recent blessing. “I am thirty years old,” they say. “Everyone else is getting married. Why did I miss it?” If I talk about marriage and love to those men and women, their mouths will …. (Father makes a facial gesture, and everyone laughs.) Do you like love? (Yes.) What kind of love? (God’s love.)
The problem is how to find God’s love, true love. That is the purpose of the religious life. People have dual characteristics and, therefore, dual purposes: a subject purpose and an object purpose. The mind is subject and the body is object. The two should not fight.
Man and woman should not become one with each other before marriage but should maintain a proper distance. As they maintain this distance, they are preparing to become one. Who then, are the pure men and women? Those who maintain the proper distance from the opposite sex, even though they might be attracted in their mind. That is the standard for purity in men and women. Have you ever felt that? Those men and women who did not feel that are not pure. That kind of phenomenon must happen before maturity.
When does the process of mind-body unity begin? It starts as love begins to sprout. In the process of maturing, your mind and body have to become one and produce the blossom of love. You have to become this kind of resultant being. That is the law of creation.
Do you, then, want to receive love or give love? The general rule is to give love. You have to know this. Giving comes first, because the creation of the universe started from God, and we must resemble God’s love. God created to give love. What, then, does He want to give? He wants to give everything: mind, representing heaven, and body, representing earth.
True love means giving everything. When things are held back, you cannot find true love. Instead of trying to reserve something for yourself, even a little handkerchief, you must give the whole. Women want a husband who will give his whole being. They will receive that love, increase it, and return it. That is the law of love. Such a husband will then possess not only his wife but her love as well. Therefore, where there is love, there is proliferation and prosperity.
You American men, when you were wandering around as hippies, you thought love was yours. You thieves! Measured against the standard of the original law, such a person is worse than an animal. Will such people will go to hell or heaven? (Hell.) That kind of person will go to the worst hell. If you did such a thing in your past, you should repent. All right?
Love God, humankind and the earth
As we perfect God’s love, we must bear fruit and offer it to Him. When is the fruit offered? True love increases with each passing year. When you are in your thirties, your love should be deeper than it was when you were in your twenties. For people in their forties, love is more intense than in it was in their thirties, and so on. Thus an old man walking around with a cane would have the most love, right?
Is it happy or sad to grow old? (Happy.) Old age is the time when love bears fruit, when God can pluck the love from its vine. You must know this. The love that God can claim bears fruit with maturity. Our conclusion is that God’s love is parental love, conjugal love and children’s love. That is a great conclusion.
We possess all of these loves. Becoming true parents, we bear true children, and we truly love these children. As true husband and wife, we truly love each other. As God’s true sons and daughters, we truly love our brothers and sisters.
In addition to loving true sons and daughters, we must love all humankind and the earth. That is our task, centered on love. Thus, we must love old people as if they were our mother or father. If someone is like a grandmother, treat her as your own grandmother. If he is like a younger brother, treat him as your real younger brother. In this way we train for love within the family. That is the ideal society.
After developing our love and loving people on earth, we meet the infinite and absolute God and love Him. We cannot do that with our limited body. Therefore, we must cross the boundary line in order to move about freely and love the Infinite God, having the same form as God.
When we cross the hill of death, God can pluck our fruit of love. When we cross the hill of death, we enter the ideal realm where we can finally love the Infinite God with complete freedom. As an infinite being transcending time and space, we can finally unite with God’s thought and God’s ideal. We can finally move about freely; as an object of free, ideal love, and live eternally. If death means going over that boundary, is death happy or sad? (Happy.) If we are looking for absolute, true love, death is a happy moment.
Do you like death? (Yes.) If it means that you can find true love, even death is good. If you can die that way, will you give up your life? Those who will do it, raise your hands. You are greedy. (Laughter.)
Make your love higher and deeper
Today, Reverend Moon has become a worldwide phenomenon. I will be a controversial figure, not only in the 21st century, but beyond. As long as humans continue to need love, I will be controversial. Today, religions do not even dream of the things I am talking about now. They do not even consider why people were born. They do not know the nature of the Kingdom of Heaven, yet they tell you that through faith you will go there. That is absurd.
Do you think I fear death? Do you think I fear anyone in this world? There is no one I fear. I came to America as a small Korean and caused controversy within three years. (Applause.) A little while ago ABC television called Reverend Moon and the Unification Church a problem. They said it would not be much of a problem if the trash of the world entered the church. What bothers them is that intellectual elites join the church. (Laughter and applause.)
After enduring all kinds of persecution and receiving so many curses, how am I still able to stand firm and extend my I ministry to the world? I could do this because I knew the path I of true love. I do it to find higher and deeper love. I do it because God is infinite and absolute, because I know the existence of eternal love, and because I want to find that path of love. The more the world opposes me, the more I will connect to God with a love that the people of the world are unable to receive.
When two people who love each other become separated, who is more valuable: the person who spends decades looking for the loved one or the person who quits looking after a year?
The more miserable a person is, the greater the glory of his love. If you rest even one hour, you will be stricken by your conscience. In order to sleep well, digest your food, and have a peaceful mind, you must pursue true love day and night. If not, your conscience starts to hurt.
You came to the Unification Church and you go through suffering in order to sell peanuts, flowers or whatever. You can pack up and go away any time. What keeps you here? Your mind. Those who leave feel conscience-stricken and after a few months they come back.
It is your misfortune that you met Reverend Moon! You received a contagious disease from me! (Laughter.) Do you feel good about catching that kind of disease? (Yes.) Then I cannot do anything about it. Do as your mind says.
The mind is the world’s worst dictator. Even if you feed ten million New Yorkers, your mind will tell you to feed America’s 220 million people. If you feed 220 million, the mind will tell you to feed the four billion people on earth. If you feed them also, your mind will tell you to feed the spiritual world and liberate it! (Laughter.) There is no worse dictator than your mind. Why? Your mind is telling you to occupy God’s love, which no one else in all the cosmos occupies.
If I capture God and occupy His love, the universe becomes mine. Thus we love others for our own sake. Then should you hate your mind, or be grateful to it? (Be grateful.) If you know this, there is no time to rest.
Walk the path with gratitude
In following this path, I have become a person of worldwide fame. The CIA and the FBI can do nothing about me. If they bring me death, I will go into the world of shining freedom representing the history that God can praise. I carry the banner of the one who has received God’s love. I have no despair.
I have more money than I can ever spend. I have all the best things in the world-especially young people and a financial foundation. I have the tradition and ideology which no one can violate. That is our wealth. Let me ask you something. Would you do whatever I ask you to do? (Yes.) You are not the only ones who answer that way. If I ask the same thing in Japan, the young people of the Unification Church in Japan also answer “yes.” This is true also in Korea, Europe and 120 nations. The young people of all nations answer the same.
It is fortunate that I am on God’s side, because if I were the head of the Mafia or a communist organization, our movement would be very dangerous. We can do anything. If I pick one of you and say, “Go to Russia today,” I know you will go. You will go even if it is risking death.
This year I sent out missionaries. Americans, Japanese and Germans were competing for the honor of being sent out. They were saying, “Teacher, why aren’t you sending me?” Isn’t that strange? Did I tell you to have that attitude? It is your mind that understands and directs you that way. Once you see sunlight and feel its warmth, you are automatically attracted toward it. If there is a way to dig deep and receive God’s love, we have to walk that path gratefully, even at the cost of our lives.
Jesus thought the same at the garden of Gethsemane. Because he knew we can enter the true world of love only by following God’s will, he said, “Not as I will but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39)
Work hard to accomplish true love
It is God’s love that we seek. Do you want that love to be distributed through me or do you want to receive it directly from God? (Directly.) You do not need me. I am here to help you, but I can only be a stimulant to speed up the process. You need me only during the time when you cross the bridge. Once you cross it you do not need me anymore.
For whom am I walking the path? For my true love. When I do it for my true love, do I want a third person involved? No, it is between God and me. Ultimately, each of us walks this path for ourselves. The Unification Church is moving around for my true love. For whose true love do we offer our lives? For my true love. All the foundations of the Unification Church-related organizations are supporting instruments for realizing true love.
Ultimately, you work not for the Unification Church but for yourself. For that reason I was mobilized, the Unification Church was mobilized, and the world was mobilized. You are not working for the Unification Church, for me or for God, but for you yourself, for your perfection. If it is hard work, you cannot complain because it is for yourself. You would have to complain to yourself!
In your opinion, is the purpose of the Unification Church, and the direction I am taking right or wrong? (Right.) If you cannot follow that path, whose fault is it? (It is our fault.)
Today, some people accuse me of dancing around naked; they blame the Unification Church for all the problems of the world. Such people can do whatever they want. The process of unification advances by absorbing persecution and opposition as nourishment.
In the face of such negativity, wishy-washy people cannot join the church. Only those who are willing to withstand the world’s rejection at the risk of their lives can join the church. Once you join the church, if you stand up straight, you can push off the opposition.
Therefore, the Unification Church will prosper rather than be destroyed because of the opposition. Those of you who have faced opposition from family or friends, please raise your hands. Thank you.
Overcome the opposition through competence
I am no exception to this. Because of Korea’s furious opposition, I came to America with the determination: “Heavenly Father, I cannot be a failure. In America, I will sacrifice my body and bring victory so that Korea will be obedient to You.”
I came here and brought victory in three years. After the great victory of the Day of Hope tours, I went back. My nine-city tour (in Korea) and the (Yoido Island) rally of 1.2 million people were a total success. Opposition is not bad; it is a stimulant which can revive you with heavenly force.
It is no fun if everyone welcomes me now. The champion is the one who wins over great opposition. Many media outlets, including NBC, the New York Times and Washington Post, make comments, but I remain silent. They can say all they want, but I am confident that I can ultimately accomplish something that none of them can ever do. Regardless of the strength of the challenger, the champion remains silent because he is confident. We are defeating them with competence.
If the FBI, CIA, or the American government incarcerated me, would you all run away? If the whites run away, then the blacks will stand up. If the black people scatter, then the yellow people will rise up. You should know that if the white people oppose me, black and yellow people will stand on my side.
God wants white, black and yellow people to unite in America, and I am working to bring that unity. This country will be broken to pieces if it opposes this work. Although Korea has been opposing me, Koreans would demonstrate in favor of Reverend Moon and the Unification Church if America opposes me. What would happen to the American Embassy? The Unification Church is spread across 120 nations. Would the international members just sit still? Something big will happen if I just say the word. America’s conscientious people have to consider this.
What have I done wrong in this nation? I have done nothing wrong to America. I have no shame in front of heaven and earth. Raise your hand if you were a hippie. All of you were hippies, right? I raised your morals and standards, I set your minds straight with the correct vision for life, I inspired you to live for the nation and toward the world, and I helped you become great and unselfish people. Is it right for America to treat me in such a way? She will be accused throughout history.
How much have you changed? Has your life turned around forty degrees or 180 degrees? Has the direction of America turned away from destruction and towards life? Proclaim the facts. There is nothing to worry about. The Western dogs have been barking out a warning that there is an Oriental man coming. After they get to know me and become friendly, not only will they stop barking but they will disown their masters and follow me.
Run until your last breath
We have become first standard-bearers in history to work to restore the unique authority and birthright of humankind. You are like competitors in a marathon, representing your tribe and race. You are at the starting line, but have you started running? You may run fast in the beginning and your good ancestors might cheer for you from the spirit world. However, if you give up half way through the course, you will be reprimanded by your ancestors and be punished tenfold or one hundredfold. The only way to avoid accusation is to run until your last breath. You even have to stick your chin out as you fall, to gain one more inch. Your ancestors will then proclaim you a historic runner who exemplifies the right spirit. For those who die in such a race, an epitaph will be raised to honor their Olympian spirit, for all people of the future to admire. Can you be such people?
Jesus passed away on the cross loving even his enemy, because he came to save humankind. He blamed himself for all the wrongs and even for his own death. He did not blame the Roman soldiers or the people of Israel. He passed away criticizing himself for the shortcomings and the lack of foundation. Because he took all the responsibility upon himself, Jesus was the greatest man.
Such people live on after their death. Great Olympic athletes become historical figures after their death. Jesus was the same. The Unification Church must walk such a path of mission. Let us go through this path with our lives.
Do you want to die in comfort or die fighting? I have stood on the front line fighting world communism. New York City is becoming infamous as the city of the devils, but that city is taking notice of me. The opposition is campaigning more diligently than we are. I have no enemy, but they all think I am their enemy. That is such a dangerous game. There are organizations of assassins who will kill anyone for $170. You cannot trust anyone.
Christian churches, government officials, and many parents hate and oppose me, but they do so out of ignorance. That is why we are responsible to let them know. If they are not properly informed, it is my mistake. Should we inform them or not?
We are planning to make great strides forward with the rallies at Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium, and so forth. Are you confident that you can bring victory at Yankee Stadium? It will bring a new dimension to things. Every aspect will be different. The nation and the Christian churches will have a difference perception of the world foundation of the Unification Church. Once they have the true image, we can take a new direction. Let’s even hold a rally in Washington.
We expanded worldwide in a short period
In Western history, what I have done is unprecedented. As a foreigner, I came alone to the United States of America and caused the leading nation of the world to turn in a new direction. Is there any religious leader in the United States who can surpass me? (Nobody.) Then, it is finished.
Next, think of mobilizing 10,000 members to go to Japan, Britain or Germany. We would have to use more than thirty jumbo jets, and airlines will compete to serve the Unification Church. They will want to give me a free ticket anywhere in the world.
If I call the president of an airline and ask him to meet me, will he come? (Yes.) If our mobilized members go to a certain country, will the president of that nation welcome us? (Yes.) If I go to a nation after our group has brought revival, will the ministers of that nation want to meet me and talk with me? (Yes.)
If we own a bank bigger than the Bank of America or Chase Manhattan, you will feel good, won’t you? (Yes.) “Wow, I thought the Unification Church was always abused,” you will exclaim. “Look how things have turned out!”
One and a half or two years ago, I said that I will mobilize jumbo jets to carry an international missionary corps across the Pacific Ocean to Asia, and the American people snubbed the idea. I chartered jumbo planes dozens of times. As a person responsible to lead the world, I must not make false claims. I must tell the facts. Is what I am now saying for the purpose of titillating your ears? I am now doing many things of which you are not aware. What I have foretold may come to pass in the near future.
Recently, about 300 mobilized members made such a sensation in Japan and Korea. Think of what will happen when 10,000 members are mobilized. Do you think I can do that or not? (Can do.) Do you want to be mobilized yourselves? (Yes.) We will assault the fallen world, liberating those who opposed us for several decades. We will sweep the world within three years.
Women must stand on the front line to make you that kind of members, I should keep silent and put you through severe training. If the time comes, should I put men or women on the front line? (Men! Women!) Who? (Men! Women!) This kind of fighting is good. Should women decide or men? (“Men! Women!” Laughter.)
To stop the fighting, I should say, “If there is any man who is better than this woman, please let him come over here.” If many men come out, I should say to the women, “Any women who are better than these men, please come over here.” By going through this process, I can stand on the side of men or women, according to their exemplary accomplishments for God. Would you like a man to be victorious in the long run or a woman? (Man! Woman!) Because both men and women want that position, I think it will be better if both a man and a woman are left in the final competition.
However, I should follow the principle of restoration. Because woman fell first, women should take the first responsibility. If we were military soldiers and all the members were willing to be first to go to the combat zone, whom should I send first? I should send women first. Are you happy with that? (Yes.) You must fight against the most vicious Satan and world communism. In the USSR alone there are 2.7 million soldiers; Red China has more. If this enormous number of soldiers attacks you, what would you do? The women members of the Unification Church might run away, frightened by the sound of cannons. (No, we will not run away.)
Because Satan is originally the fallen archangel, Satan must be under the control of Eve. Satan must be extinguished by the power of women. Therefore, please fight him. From now on you should determine to be ready for that fight. Our recent rally to save Korea was just training for that fight. We have pledged in front of God not be defeated by communists. You should be stronger than communists.
Through history, women have been nameless and oppressed. When I came to America, I saw American women dominating men, so I thought, “If I mobilize these women, they will dominate communist men!” Is it right or not? (Cheers, applause.) I think that throughout human history Heavenly Father has been training lecma Advent. American women, are you willing to do this? (Yes.)
How can you win? It is simple: hit them on their vital spot. For that, you need training. This is no joke. If I mobilize 10,000 women from each country and say, “Attention!” you should say “Yes!” If I say “Salute!” you should say “Yes!” If I say “Tum around and go,” you should say “Yes!” If I say, “You must go to Moscow,” you must march forward. (Applause.) Is this possible by force or only voluntarily? You should think about that.
Show America our ability
Communism will not retreat just as it is. Therefore, democracy needs us. Democracy needs spiritual power as well as military and economic power. Under God’s direction, the Unification Church undertook this great historical mission, assuming responsibility for all fields.
Religion must fight against communism. There is no other opponent confronting communism. Which religion in the democratic world will confront communism? Presbyterian churches look like homes for the elderly. The Catholic church cannot be relied on to do the job. Democracy will look for a religion with young people, a religion stronger than communism. Where is such a religious group? There is only the Unification Church.
Can you win over communism? (Yes.) That day will come. You must demonstrate your capabilities in the democratic world. Before we can overcome communism, Christianity and all other religions must recommend the Unification Church as the true solution.
To estimate our prospects, we must evaluate our capabilities. The question is how we can influence the masses with a small number of people.
When we were trying to bring an overflow crowd to Madison Square Garden, the New York Times did not believe it. They sneered at us. Hasn’t that sneer been squashed now? (Yes.) The environment has changed one hundred percent. If we win a victory one hundred percent, we will rise to worldwide success. People would say, “Neither communism nor democracy nor any other country can compete with them.”
After the success of the Yankee Stadium rally, why should we go to Washington? According to the Principle, since we have succeeded in the formation stage and growth stage, we should succeed in the completion stage.
My original plan is to hold the rally in the Capitol. I know many senators there, and they also know our members. They will cheer us and say, “Oh, Reverend Moon, finally you have come here; you made it.” There are people who have been supporting us in many quiet ways over there. They will blow big trumpets to wake up the White House, the Congress, and the entire city. Those who have not yet expressed their real support for me will appear and shout, “Why have you guys attacked Reverend Moon so badly!” They will even fight some of the opposition groups. The situation will really change.
I can call people from all over the country with a simple order “come,” and they will assemble in three days. Some of the hot-tempered members probably forced their car, shouting “Go! Go!” America is going to be our playground, in spite of its huge size. We have a few hundred cars and 150 vans. If we mobilized all of them in one place that would be really something. Any politician who wants to run for president will come to me in few years. The government itself cannot mobilize 1 500,000 people in Washington. It might cost a few billion dollars. We have a power that nobody can ignore. Do you understand? (Yes.)
Bring success at Yankee Stadium
As you all know, there are embassies representing countries from all over the world in Washington. Until now they have been very negative towards our movement. Will they change? Yes! The straight-forward approach is the quickest way, but it is also the most difficult. Would you like to go through this difficult path? If you do not want to take this path, I will not either. Shall we do it? (Yes!)
You all know what “Yankee” is. Instead of using the original meaning of the word, why don’t we use the word this way; “Young-key!” Key of the youth. (Applause.) “Yankee” represents Northern solders, who centered upon President Lincoln and fought for the sake of righteousness. Their spirits were completely one with God. Next year America will be 200 years old.
Spiritually, America is in great danger. Abraham Lincoln was born to a poor, uneducated man. Lincoln went from being nothing to saving America! Remembering that, no one can say Reverend Moon cannot save America.
During the time of the Civil War, the Yankees won, but this time Young-key shall win! (Applause.) Of course, I am not saying all of you should go out and make new keys …. (Laughter.)
Heavenly Father is very pleased with our activities. If you ask people in the spirit world, including Jesus, they will happily agree with us, too. Unification Church members would all say they love it. So I have no choice but to take this path.
At the Yoido Rally in Korea, we were able to gather over 1.2 million people within two weeks. How many days are needed for the Yankee Stadium Rally? Less is better. Shall we be victorious? (Victorious!) We shall be victorious!
Interracial marriages overcome racial barriers I started by talking about the barriers to creating unity. God prepared the world for unity by leading people to deny everything of value. When we bring out the positive element, with a spirit much stronger than the prevailing spirit of denial, the world can unite.
Opposing cultures are a big roadblock. The Eastern and Western cultures are the problem. What we need is a new culture, one stronger than any Eastern or Western culture, which can prevail. God wants this to come about; therefore, He must choose one champion from among religious groups. God has chosen the Unification Church as that religious group.
How can we destroy the racial barriers that block the way to unity? The Unification Church has the answer. In our church, there is no racial barrier. Who can break down all the barriers and open up the door of unity, leading to the one central point? Only the Unification Church has that key.
Are you confident? (Yes!!) Marriage between black and white is the one way to transcend racial barriers. Can it be done by force? (No!!) If Unification Church members are willing to marry without regard for the color of their partner’s skin, we have the solution.
Those who think we have the key, please raise your hands. God is looking down and saying, “Well, Reverend Moon, you have educated them well!” (Laughter.) Will God say, “Reverend Moon, you are wrong: I only love white people; I do not care about black and yellow”? If God ever said such a thing, I would say, “What kind of God are you? Come to listen to my lecture?” (Laughter and applause.)
The God whom I found is a greater lecturer than me. He knows everything; He knows the truth. He will say, “We can make all religions unite into one.” There are people here of all kinds of previous religious adherence. You have different family and religious backgrounds, but here we are integrated. We are a living example of how to transcend knowledge, nationality, and personal glory.
Why have all these Japanese women come to America? They are shedding so many tears and sweat in a country which was their enemy. These Japanese women have ignored the past and are sacrificing themselves for the enemy country. Some of these Japanese sisters were blessed five years ago in the Blessing of 777 Couples. Their husbands are working in Japan and they are in America, without complaint. They are spiritually united with their spouses, but they are physically far away, giving the utmost everyday.
God needs the Unification Church
Religious people have lost confidence in God. They are going so far as to deny God, saying that God is dead. Now the new ideology of the Unification Church suddenly appears, bringing new forces together. People in this church are giving their utmost for the purpose of God. Don’t you think that this ideology alone can unite world religions?
I want you to know-because God already knows it-that religions not only are unsure about Satan, they are unsure about God. They are denying everything. The Unification Church has clear knowledge not only of God but of Satan as well. Therefore, we can dedicate ourselves with an unprecedented religious fervor. This is the key to unlocking the future.
We are not under a conceptual God. We are working with a living God, a God who defines our way of life. We are living with God and walking every step with Him. God is the subject of our daily life. We are not wavering; we know God exists.
God knows, more than anyone else, that the Unification Church alone has the key to unlock the difficulties of the universe. This key unlocks the doors of religion, ideology, and all other aspects of life. God knows very well that the Unification Church is the only answer. Does God need us then? What will God do if we tell Him to go away because we do not need Him, and that we can do it ourselves? Will God go away, saying, “Well, if you say that, then I do not need you either!” God will not say that. God will bring all of the blessing and jump in front of us, blocking our way and saying, “Here is your blessing. Please receive it!” (Laughter.)
Do you think I am the envy of the US President? At the order of the president, would you go to Moscow? (“No!” Laughter.) Today, young people in particular have a complete disregard for politicians.
Within five or ten years there will be an avalanche of people joining our church, because the young people of the world have no other place to go except for the road of the Unification Church. Do you believe it? (Yes!) It is a reality; it is fact.
We are needed by God. We are needed by the young people of the world. We are needed by humanity. We are needed by all the religion s of the world, because without us they cannot unite. Therefore, ultimately, the victory will come in fact not just in theory. Do you know this as fact? (Yes!) This entire world is in the palm of your hand; it can be handled and controlled, moved by your two hands. In the world outside of this church, they do not want to hear this. That is why they say that Reverend Moon is brain washing people. You wait and see.
Liberate God
The only problem is the degree of your unity with me in a subject-object relationship. Once we are united with one purpose, the miracle of recreation takes place. In the near future, we will have a vast economy, vast manpower, and the most absolute ideology. We can cook the universe in a short time. We will liberate humanity. That is why we are pledging ourselves for the liberation of America, in the name of God. We will liberate Asia, Europe, and the entire world. What is next? The liberation of God, with our hands.
God has been trying to fulfill His love, but without success. Unable to fulfill His goal of love, God has been in pain! Therefore, by becoming the complete object of God, allowing God’s love to flow through us and return to Him, God will be liberated.
Communists claim they will liberate the farmers and laborers. We are going to liberate men and women of conscience; we will liberate religion; we will liberate all good ideology; will liberate all humanity, enabling them to enjoy true happiness, peace, joy and freedom. We are the first group in history to take on such a task. We are determined to fulfill this goal. Such a group did not exist in the past and it will not exist in the future. We are representing the past and future. It will come only once. There is no retreat. There is no failure. March forward; this is the only way. Our way is toward prosperity and victory.
No matter the opposition, we have prospered continuously under whatever circumstances. This has been the record of the Unification Church. Even under adverse conditions and opposition, we have managed to prosper. So, what will happen in the future? The entire world will welcome us. Then think of the prosperity we will bring to humanity.
On your shoulders rests a sublime task and challenge. We must accept the challenge and meet the task, so we can build a better tomorrow. We must have absolute hope for tomorrow. If we retreat from this point, we will not be able to avoid the accusation of God, of humanity and of the world. We must know our destiny. That destiny only allows us to march forward, not to retreat.
Each step is a victory. Morning, noon and night, our march must continue 24 hours a day. God looks at us, anxiously longing for us to live up to His expectation. We cannot let Him down.
Maybe my comrades may tire out and falter. Still I will go. I will go forward to obtain the victory, even for my own comrades. I will obtain not only my portion, but my comrades’ portion too.
Are you already part of this march or are you still just considering joining? (IN!!) To stay with the military analogy, would you like to be a gun which fires one bullet at a time, very slowly, or a machine gun firing 24 hours a day? Your machine gun is machine gun is your mouth. Your ammunition is the truth. Fire the truth, 24 hours a day. Your eyes, your entire focus, should be upon the target. What if you fire 1,000 rounds and still the enemy is not conquered? We will not surrender but will fire 10,000 rounds if necessary. If 10,000 will not bring the victory, then we will use 20,000, 50,000, 100,000 rounds. If the enemy still does not surrender, then throw your entire body like a bomb. Those who say, “This is the most exciting prospect. I’m willing to do that,” raise your hands. You are making your pledge in the sight of God and humanity.
Even though I am much older than all of you, I am still on the front line, and I will be the first one to march. At age thirty, forty and fifty, the physical body is different. But still, though I am past the age of fifty, I will not fall behind you. As long as there is a purpose and a mission, I will run in front. If I die in the process, realize that I died for the mission. You must inherit that spirit and consummate my ideology. Because God wants it and True Parents want it, you want it. You just cannot avoid it.
In conclusion, I want you to become God’s champions. Do not stop at Yankee Stadium or Washington Monument. Keep going until you liberate the entire world, until the communist world is liberated.
Today’s theme, “Central Figure of Victory,” means, “I am going to be the central figure of victory.” I want you to be very serious about today’s message and give yourselves completely, living up to my expectation as well as God’s expectation. Let us pray.
