“Do Not Trample on Religious Freedom”
KCLC Holds Emergency Prayer Rally in Front of Seoul Detention Center

On October 13, the Korean Christian Leadership Conference (KCLC) and the Korean Council of Religious Leaders convened the “2nd Declaration for Religious Freedom and Prayer Rally” in front of the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province. The event was held in response to the detention of Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) World President Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and the recent raids on religious institutions by the Special Prosecutor’s Office. The organizers condemned these actions as “a grave threat to constitutional order.”

KCLC criticized the Special Prosecutor’s investigations and raids targeting religious organizations such as Yoido Full Gospel Church, Far East Broadcasting Company, and FFWPU, stating that these actions “constitute a direct infringement of religious freedom guaranteed under Article 20 of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea.” They also expressed concern over unverified allegations involving Buddhist orders, warning against “a dangerous trend of expanding political bias beyond religious boundaries.”

In the declaration, KCLC called on the Special Prosecutor to:

  • Cease biased investigations and ensure fairness
  • Refrain from indiscriminate raids and speculative media coverage
  • End unilateral investigations and human rights violations targeting religious communities

KCLC emphasized, “The current exercise of state power threatens not only religious freedom but also the very foundation of Korean democracy. We will stand in solidarity and fight to protect the religious freedom of all faiths.”

Approximately 300 religious leaders and participants attended the prayer rally. Organizers announced plans to expand interfaith solidarity and pursue legal and institutional reforms to safeguard human rights and religious liberty.
