UPF-Bolivia, together with the Committee on Cultures, Interculturality and Cultural Heritage of the Chamber of Deputies, led by the Honorable National Congresswoman Bertha B. Acarapi, organized a Forum in Commemoration of World Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day, which was held on June 1 in the Multipurpose Hall of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly. The welcoming remarks were given by National Congresswoman and Ambassador of Peace Betty B. Yañiquez Lozano, who highlighted the role of Mothers and Fathers in the protection of such a vulnerable group as children.
Gustavo Mejía, National Director of Escuela de Padres, emphasized the relativized era in which we live where the notion of the human species and humanity has been lost. He regretted that only 48% of the families have been formed of their own free will. He emphasized the lack of public policies to support families in vulnerable situations.
Nely Almanza, Secretary General of UPF, developed the theme “Mothers, Fathers, Sustainable Development Goals”, emphasizing that for the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations, the strategic allies are the Mothers and Fathers who are responsible for the formation of global citizens from exemplifying in their lives, the practice of living for the good of others.
They received the “Mother, Father, Peace Builder” award:
- Dr. Francy Fabiola Pacheco Quisbert, Methodist Hospital Director
- Gustavo Mejía, National Director, Escuela de Padres
- Dr. Melva Gamarra Cortéz, Lawyer specialized in Defense of Children’s Rights.
- Sabina Hilda Condori, National Deputy, President of the Ordinary Jurisdiction Committee and Magistrates Council.
The nominees, as well as those in attendance, shed tears as they listened to the words of their daughters and sons for them.
Reflection
Many participants expressed that the event was very moving, that the role of mother and father is a gift from God, and a great responsibility, that the greatest blessing in life is to be called mom, dad!
