Father’s Speech at the Sixteenth Celebration of Chil Il Jeol, July 1, 2006 at Chung Pyung Heaven and Earth Training Center
Father’s Prayer
Beloved Heavenly Father, today is July 1 of the sixth year of Cheon Il Guk, on which we are celebrating the sixteenth occasion of Chil Il Jeol.
We realize how much You have striven in the course of providential history to integrate everything from Heaven, to find and restore the number seven, and to draw the final line of victory.
For so long You have persevered and endured unceasing agony to cross over the limiting lines of Your original ideal at the Creation, in order to restore the original position of humanity from the level of the individual to the family, tribe, race, nation, world and cosmos, centering upon the throne of God. You, Father, lost the position of the owner from which You could govern the entire universe with the sovereignty of love, with Your complete transcendence and immanence and with full authority and omnipotence, and have had to labor and toil until now; knowing this, we are too ashamed to stand before You.
You have borne with patience even the fact that the one-time mistake of Adam and Eve, our progenitors, brought about such destruction both on earth and in heaven. It was Your original, prudent intention to have the original standard of Adam be such that he could reach the perfection of Your will in the world that You created according to the highest standard of creation. You have waited for the day when Adam and Eve could be united into one in mind and body, internally and externally, with You. Adam and Eve were to be the origin of the nation, where they could govern and settle down, become the root of this original homeland, perfect themselves, and finally receive the blessing. We are aware of this truth, and ask You earnestly to allow us to express our due reverence toward You.
From the day this son came to know the will, I have devoted all I have within me to transcend the limits of the hopes You cherished for establishing a world of heart, for the one Adam and one Eve to achieve perfection and to settle down based on Your original, ideal sovereignty of love—and from this position of perfection to become husband and wife in oneness of mind and body with Heaven. Knowing your desired ideology of settling down eternally based upon such a model family, which will be established on the basis of Your love and become the original center of the Kingdom of Heaven in heaven and on earth, this son has come this far under Your guidance.
Now that the coronation ceremony centered upon the kingship of peace has been carried out, the limits of Your original standard crossed, and the summit of your grief and sorrow surmounted, You can finally stand at the top of love as You have desired to, with complete authority, and have all beings in the universe under Your protection. You are now in a position wherein You can assert Yourself under the standard of absolute love, absolute obedience and absolute faith, become the flower and fruit at the center of love in the ideal world of complete oneness, and restore the standard desiring the liberation of the kingdom of heaven on earth and in heaven, where the first family and its descendants to come, who will reign over the entire universe, will be embraced in the bosom of love and not one would have reason to heave sighs of lamentation. From this day onward, You can have full sway over the entire universe, embrace it as Your object of love, bestow love upon it and live together with it, embracing it with a heart that is greater than the heart of love You had at the time of the Creation. We understand Your heart and desire to make this universe into one, wherein the fruits can be borne together with the fragrance of Your love in the center of the original flower of Your perfect heart, and the fruits thus borne in each and every family in the cosmos taken into storage in the storeroom so that families on the levels of the individual, tribe, race, nation, world and cosmos can enjoy self-assertiveness and liberation, and go and settle down anywhere in the world with glad hearts.
Now that the coronation ceremony centered upon the kingship of peace has been carried out, and the month of June ended yesterday, starting from the month of July through August, and September, the rallies for the Universal Peace Federation and to restore the homeland should be finished by September 10, so that on the absolute authority that embraces self-assertiveness and liberation of the victorious supremacy of Abel, we can advance into the age where the authority to bring everything to the good can be exercised with the victorious kingship, with the original authority of the Father, the authority of the great master of the universe. Father, we hope and pray that you will allow us to achieve this.
Though this son has served Heaven with complete devotion from the time I was a mere child until now, I know that the life I have led has not reached the standard Your original heart desires. I earnestly hope and pray that through the Unification Church You will allow all people in the world holding the value of the center of the universe to create blessed families who can be respected wherever we go and can exercise self-assertion within the substantial realm of family, in a universe united under one sovereignty of love and aiming for the very highest summit with one common hope, the worries in our hearts dispersed.
On this Sabbath morning, celebrating the sixteenth occasion of Chil Il Jeol, all Your children have gathered here from across the nation, so please sanctify this place where Your children are seated, as well as the offering table. We beseech You to allow this place to become the peaceful kingdom of Your love, where You can settle down stably with a heart centered on these families, with even greater affection for them, and, going beyond the nation and even the universe, treat these families with a heart that is billions of times greater than the desire in Your heart to meet the original family after losing the family ideal in Eden.
This son hopes and prays that You will bless us to accomplish all we have planned to achieve this year, from this morning through the months of July, August and September to October, and that only the flowers, fragrance, and fruit of the supremacy of Your victory will be placed within Your mind. Please accept this report given this morning, and everything else, with pleasure. I report, report, report, and declare this in True Parents’ names! Amen! Amen! Amen!
Father’s Speech
Today is Chil Il Jeol [7 1 Day]. When you add seven and one you get eight. On June 13, we celebrated a very important day, and the period from that day to the last day of June was a period of seventeen days. Today is the eighteenth day. Isn’t that so? Eighteen days! Considering everything in this light, I believe we have reached the final phase.
I have not lived my life all by myself. I could not have done that even if I had tried, but the time has come when I can live alone. That is why the thought that came to me as we ushered in Chil Il Jeol was, “Everything I have done and lived through from long ago in my hometown was in order to bring this day to fruition.”
For whom have I lived? When you consider whom I have lived for, you reach the conclusion that it was not for myself but for God—for His will, for the people and things of heaven.
This was not a task that several people were responsible for. Only one person was. I have walked this path alone. I performed the tasks alone. I was not in an environment where I could discuss with anyone else that I would go this or that way. Why? I was in a position where I could not be together with God, since He could not directly govern fallen Adam and Eve; unless I achieved the perfection of restoration after passing through the course of restoration, I could not be free from the position of Adam and Eve after the Fall.
That is why everything, even the work involving the will of God, could have been carried out by anyone under His guidance. I am now eighty-seven years old, but because six months have passed since my birthday, I can be connected to the era of the number eight, for I can safely be said to be eighty-eight years old.
The Unification Church, and religion in general, came to exist because of the Fall. Nations came to exist because of Cain and Abel. Cain murdered Abel, so Abel has to come again to reclaim the position of the elder brother. It was because the elder brother did not want to have his position taken by his younger brother that he shed his younger brother’s blood. Because of this, history has continued to be bloody and will continue to be so until it reaches its final destination.
Who should shed blood, Abel or Cain? The elder brother struck the younger brother first, causing him to bleed. Because of this, the one in the elder brother position set the tradition of history. Even now, it is Cain, the elder brother, who causes Abel to bleed. This signifies the era individual bloodshed and the era of family bloodshed. There are eras for tribal, racial, national, global and cosmic bloodshed..
At present, we have traversed the standard of the nation and advanced into the era of the world. Communists, materialists and theists are at odds over the question of whether God exists or not. Centering on God and Satan, the people and things of heaven, and all nations of heaven are shedding blood. In order to go beyond that and finally bring an end to all the bloodshed, they must not fight back. It would not be right for them to fight back. Since the onset of history, it has been the strategy of God to be beaten first, so that He can take something in return.
What would I wish to leave to all of you on this Chil Il Jeol? Until now I have carried out all these tasks alone. In seeking the word, the Principle, God did not tell me, “Look up such and such a page in the Bible.” It was more as if on a pitch-black night, with the aid of the light from a firefly—because a lantern would be too large—I prepared myself. I looked around to find what in my surroundings might harm me, what monster might injure me. I needed to identify the monster.
After discovering the monster, learning how it lived and the doors it could enter by, I needed to block it. The question was how I could block it. If I were to block it with my feet, my feet would bleed. If I were to stop it with my hands, they would bleed. If I were to use my head against its whole body, my head would bleed. That is the history we lived through.
That is why all those who desire to live within the religious realm and receive blessings will all be ruined. Satan’s side will finish them off. In the end, they will not remain. That is why it is nonbelievers who establish the nation. The nation is what the elder brother, Cain, brought into existence after killing Abel. Would a few decades be enough time for the murdered Abel, the younger brother, to climb up into the position of the elder brother and stand on an equal footing with him?…
How difficult is it to convert one person to your faith? Even if—in order to convert the person—you were to fulfill the role of the grandfather of that person, or the father, or the husband, or the wife, or the child , it would be difficult to bring someone from the satanic world over to your side…
Do you know about fishing? It looks as if it is all rest and play, but there’s no resting involved. Someone who is good at fishing does not act rashly. When he has to do something, he does it with care. As far as questions about life are concerned, he considers them over the course of a lifetime. That being the case, how much more would the person think about the providence of restoration, which is all about paving the way to God’s liberation along a path unknown to humankind.
Perhaps you may not know this, everyone. If the men who came here a while ago, the peace ambassadors, were here now, they would understand this. They are in the same generation as I am. When we were young, we used to play games with folded paper and with marbles. You hit a small marble with a larger one like this, “pop!” Back then a penny bought me three marbles. I remember asking my mother to buy me some marbles and being yelled at. I would cry and cry…
I used to cry in such a way that it would irritate my own mother. I cried in such a way that anyone who heard it would run away, even my own mother or grandfather could not bear listening to me. If you are actually going to cry, shouldn’t you cry until you have surprised everyone and knocked them down by it rather than stopping after a few squeaks? Yes, my nickname was “one-day crier.” I was famous for being a one-day crier. I would cry until I bled.
Others would know I was demanding something because they had done something wrong. I cried because I was feeling bad over something my mother, grandfather or father had done wrong. I had to make them yield, even if I had to bleed. When you would go to the countryside, instead of finding paper-floored rooms, you’d find rooms covered with reed mats. Do you know what reed mats are? They are rug-like things made by weaving reeds together. If you press down and run your hand over it, you would find cuts on your hand. That shows how sturdy the reeds are. And the mats are made by weaving them together.
When I decided to go ahead and cry, I would roll around on the floor so much that even though I was wearing socks, I would rub my feet against the mat until I made holes in my socks and my heels started bleeding. The blood would soak into the floor. If there were no response to that, I would start staining the walls next. This would continue until I lost all energy and passed out; I’d bled so much that I was on the verge of dying. I am such an extreme person.
Because He knew my character, God must have thought, “If I get hold of this fellow and put him on the narrow path, he would more than accomplish all that I set out to do.” Since He is so resourceful and capable, and understood my personality, do you think the idea would have come to Him to make use of me? Even God Himself can be implicated if He does wrong. In that case, even He would become desperate.
When I was young, whenever I heard somebody in some town was good at doing something, I would find him and say, “I hear you are good at doing such and such. I’ve been thinking about if for three days, and I think I’ve come up with techniques of my own that will allow me to beat you. So, let’s get down to it!” And once I got hold of him and began, I would never admit that I had lost. Instead, I would insist that it wasn’t over yet. It would be over only when I said, “I have lost.” How could it end if I didn’t admit that? My personality is like that.
In light of this, you don’t know how complicated the path I have been blazing is. Grandmothers, mothers, or the daughters-in-law, the daughters of the three women or the grandmothers, all refer to me as “My teacher,” and not the grandmother’s teacher, mother’s teacher, my teacher, or my daughter’s teacher. They all call me, “My teacher!” Isn’t that so? [It’s true.]…
Here’s a question for the creatures called women: Is Adam the elder brother or is Eve the elder sister? Which is it? [Adam is the elder brother.] What? [Adam is the elder brother.] Adam is the elder brother? [Yes.] I often hear women nowadays calling, “elder brother, elder brother.” What is the reason for this? It is to find the elder brother lost in Eden….
I had six sisters of my own, six. I had six sisters, and though all women feel some attachment to me and admire me, my sisters liked me the best. Even when our mother brought home something for them to eat, and they could have finished it off, they always left some for me.
Three were older than I am, and three were younger. It was not good for them to mistreat their brother, because it would have caused problems for them at home.
That is why they treated me well—for their own good. The same is true of all woman Unification Church members, whether they are Asian, Westerners, or of any other race. Taking ten nations for instance, if I were at the center of them, the ten nations would not fight with each other.
Hwang Sun-jo! [Yes.] You boasted that in the Cheon Seong Gyeong translation project, though there were many complications over the months it lasted, the members from the seventeen nations did not fight once, didn’t you? Were you saying that just to please me, or was it true? [It was true.] How is that possible? I suppose those people who came to work on the project were all nobler than I. If it had been me, I would have been fighting every three days, or swearing at the very least!…
After establishing Cheon Il Guk and performing the Coronation Ceremony for the Kingship of God, how many years passed before we performed this [recent] coronation ceremony? Hwang Sun-jo! [Five years.] How long was the total time taken? [The full time was five years and five months.] What, a total of five years? Did all this happen after only five years? We certainly have grown.
Everyone, after we hang the sign for the Abel UN after December, we will have to wrestle at least once at the risk of our lives. It will be my fight alone against all the nations that are opposed to the idea. That’s the kind of fight we are preparing for.
The question is, will you run away when the time comes and you are faced with such opposition, or stand in the front, take full responsibility and shout out to them, “Go ahead, hit me!”
Don’t take me for a fool. There is nothing I haven’t done. When I go out to sea, I am the best fisherman. Wherever I go, I become famous in less than a year. Why? Other fishermen don’t go out to fish when it rains; they stay at home. They don’t go out at all when it rains, because when it rains and lightening is striking, you can’t catch big fish at sea. They all disappear. Under such circumstances, with the thunderbolts striking and the wind howling and with my clothes wet to the skin in less than five minutes, so wet that water is actually dripping from them, I sit still and fish. You have no idea how blessed that is. The fish don’t hesitate to take the bait. They say that fish don’t take bait when it rains, but when I’m fishing, bigger fish than usual do. Yes, fish, too, like me so much that they follow me around. That’s what happens.
This is also the case if I decide to go hunting somewhere. The Army Basic Training Center is near here, isn’t it? There is a shooting range there frequented by soldiers and others who hold shooting records with M1 carbines or rifles and who are proud of how well they shoot. I first bought a gun in 1962, so that when I climbed mountains, I could hunt wild boars, roe deer, or even tigers if there were any.
After buying a gun, the first thing you would begin shooting at would be pheasants or sparrows, right? Didn’t we manufacture air shotguns used for shooting sparrows? We first began to research and manufacture an air shotgun, not at the suggestion of Moon Seong-gyun, but at my suggestion. I came up with the concept of reversing the valve, which created higher pressure.
Did you know that I am good with machines, having studied science? Our Shin-joon has inherited this trait. I am not a crude person from the countryside who makes his living by wheedling money out of naïve women.
Do I need a lot of money, or do I not need money at all? [You need money.] Do I need a lot of money, or not? [You need it.] I don’t need it! How about you? [We need it.] Do you need money more than I do? Bring me the money you have, and I will save Korea with it. I will not use it for myself. I am very frugal toward myself. I don’t use money for myself.
We are planning to make helicopters. When I first said that we would use manufacturing techniques that come from the United States, others began saying that for this and that reason it cannot happen, and so on. But even if they thought it couldn’t happen, it would not have been right for me to think so too. I am a man who makes what is impossible for others possible. Those who were doing very well in the world but failed and ended up here have all said so. If they were doing so well out there, why didn’t they stay where they were and act like leaders instead of being pushed around?
I’m starting to become sweaty now. Today is a good day, and I should be treated well on such a day. What time is it now? [It is twenty minutes past ten.] No, it’s fifteen minutes, no, seventeen minutes and twenty seconds past ten! [Laughter] Set the time right on your watch. [Laughter] Why are you laughing?…
Hwang Sun-jo! Where did Mother speak the day before yesterday? [She was in Israel.] Israel!… I hear sixty people died there in recent fighting. It’s a war zone. After word got round that Mother and some of the True Children were going there, there were those in the United States who raised a commotion and cried, “Good Lord! Our True Parents, our True Mother and True Children should not go there.” On the night before they were to go, I got a phone call indicating that it was still an issue. “You rogues, were you the ones who decided this? I was the one who made the decision, and in doing so I chose and sent those who would live, not those who would die. Why all the fuss then? You good-for-nothings!” Nothing can come of this if nations like that are not visited. If my work had been as easy as that, I would have had no reason to be abused by others, or imprisoned….
Where are peace ambassadors usually educated in the Unification Church? They should be at hoondokhwae by five. How many years has it been since we started hoondokhwae? Hwang Sun-jo! [It has been ten years.] During those ten years, I have always been on time, strictly at five o’clock. No, I was late once some time back because of our Sun-jin.
If you are late, you should repent. Many people are enduring difficulties to come to these sessions, and church leaders should not hide in the back room. Even God Himself should follow Rev. Moon. After the father has raised his child, and the child turns out better than the father, the father should follow the child after he grows old, shouldn’t he? It is the same.
Until now I have taught you many spiritual things when you found it difficult. Those times have passed, however. Now, the age of God’s direct management and dominion is at hand; it’s a new era. Now I can only help you to a certain degree, according to a legal and logical standard. Do you understand what that means?
It is no longer an era of grace, or of forgiveness. Now a person must fulfill his responsibility. If he doesn’t, he will be responsible for it and will have to resolve it all by himself. Ancestors, descendants and so forth no longer matter. When Adam and Eve fell, the history of salvation moved through their children, their descendants. Now, though the father, elder brother or teacher is right there, they cannot help the person concerned. Since this is an age where you need to solve everything by yourself, you should no longer act impulsively.
What do you think I am trying to say, everyone? If you were to visit our palace, you would see that pillars like the ones used there cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The biggest of them was assembled from five pieces; it was hard work just to bring them to the construction site, first by ship and then overland. People like us have some scientific or professional knowledge about this kind of thing. For the sake of weight distribution, the truck had many wheels, like this in a long, straight line. That’s how the pillar had to be transported.
Can these stone pillars be moved back and forth, to any place we choose, or is it not possible to move them around? I know that they are a symbol of the directions I give: “You will not move even after a decade or even a hundred or a thousand years. You will stay right there, standing as you are now. Until the house collapses and loses its shape, you will be the central pillars that hold it together and maintain its form as a house!”
Who is the owner of that house? Though the members of the Unification Church may say it is our palace, the owner is surely God; yet it is not good enough for God to be its owner. If you were to see the palaces and buildings like that in the spiritual world, you would see that this is nothing.
It would be wonderful if I could build a palace in this world that is tens of times greater than this one, as a place where God can rest, before I pass on into the spiritual world, but that kind of project couldn’t be completed in a year or two. I’m eighty-eight years old now; in two years I’ll be ninety. People would think I were crazy if I started a new project now. They’d say that I’d never see it through to the end. When I think about things like that, I can’t help becoming more cautious.
At this very spot too, there should be a palace hundreds and thousands of times better, where God can come and dwell. That is how it is in the spiritual world. That is what the palaces in the spiritual world are like. I know. God is now in a position to become the owner of this palace. Until now He has had to live in sorrow, but now for the first time ever, He is residing in this palace as the first home built for Him based on restoration through indemnity. Though I may not be able to stay here for ten years, twenty years, a hundred years or a thousand years, it is the hope of this son that God will stay here like this pillar and watch over the house instead of me.
There is only one God. What is happening in heaven? If there is anything God is helping us to achieve on earth, I must add something, do something, to augment that; and when I go to heaven later, together with whatever I have accomplished, what is achieved on earth will also serve as the original foundation on which I will serve God. The problem is, what is to be done if there is not enough time to complete it, or if I am not in a position to do it. Do you understand?
Therefore, you should be prudent. If you can’t be a great pillar, you should at least serve as one end of a pillar, buried deep in the earth, where you can stay for tens of thousands of years and help to preserve even one letter or one memory of Father. If you can do that, as long as the house built by Father and the ideologies advocated by Father do not disappear from the face of the earth, that site where you are buried will shine as your personal property. When you pass on into the next world, you will be praised and given awards for it; and through it, memories of you will live on forever.
What is to be done in that case? I’m telling you to build your own palaces. Do you understand? [Yes.] I’m telling you to build minor palaces. If a decision was made to build one in your province, the provincial governor should bring together other leaders and national assemblymen from that province and build it there.
Once that palace is built, those who helped build it should live in it. Though you may not be able to accomplish great deeds in your life, you should at least live in such a way that others can trust you and rely on you; you should be devoted to heaven, be a credit to God and live in such way that God remembers you as a member of the family of heaven.
If this were so, after visiting this palace, if there were a nice palace in Gyeongsang Province, God would visit there next. If there were one in Jeolla Province, He would visit it too and then return to Heaven. The time would come when He could make annual visits, or visit on special occasions such as at the end of the year. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were a few such palaces in Korea?…
If you were to wake up early in the morning and take a walk around the palace, it would take you an hour or two at least to make a complete round. What could you do to pass the time in such a place all by yourself?
If I heard that another palace was to be built in the countryside, I could help with managing its construction, and offer other assistance, too. The palace here was built with the aid of the spiritual world. Now that I have nothing else to do but sit and rest, the best way to make me work again and make my life worthwhile would be to call me to assist in building other palaces. If there were a hundred people in Korea preparing to build palaces, there would be a hundred palaces built in Korea.
This is the message that I want to leave behind me on this Chil Il Jeol. What is left for us to do? As far as I know, after creating Adam and Eve, God also created the kingdom of heaven on earth and in heaven. Humankind has remained unaware of this because of the Fall. I have discovered all these truths and learned them by myself. The reality of heaven is that it has already been created, but it has been left empty until now. However, I have worked things out, so that now we have entered the era in which it can finally be put to use.
Centering on Adam’s family and the standard begun from that family, God must have prepared the grounds for a palace that would have connected them to a time one thousand or ten thousand years later, with preparations made centered on Adam’s family. Do you understand?
These preparations were made centering upon the original, anticipated family of Adam, without the Fall. Of course, it is true that the families, the descendants of that original family, are now living together as the people and citizens of peace, but we should never forget that we have a Father who has prepared everything and is waiting for us, and that a nation that was meant for us used to be there. Do you understand? [Yes.]
You should think about how, in the ideal kingdom of heaven, you can become the best parents, the most devoted sons and daughters, and fulfill the duties of the finest patriots, saints, and divine sons or daughters. You should ponder this in your hearts by yourselves. Do you understand? [Yes.] Do you? [Yes.]…
How beautiful is the land of Korea? With the Pacific Ocean to the east where the islands of Japan are, and on the other side, the plains of Manchuria…all the land will become one great nation.] We should make them into one nation. Can you sense this, or not? [We can sense it.]…
I’m sure there is a way waiting for me to help liberate God. So, if I leave work undone behind me, even if it is only a hundredth or one ten thousandth of it, God will be expecting me to offer prayers and conditions and finish the work when I’m over on the other side. If I don’t fulfill it, He will call me and advise me, “Hey, you have prayed for that, so why are you sitting still and doing nothing?”
Therefore, I should start preparing to create minor palaces, harboring such a heart. It could not be done alone, however. The clan should be mobilized; the village should be mobilized; the township should be mobilized; the province should be mobilized; the entire nation should be mobilized. Since I know you are up to the task, before I go to the spirit world, it is my plan not to have the blessed Korean people simply remain in Korea….
I started out with nothing and have built such a great palace in the end. You, too, should start by preparing small grounds for palaces, so that they can expand hundreds of times, even to the spirit world. Such areas of development are calling out to me! Amen! [Applause]
Then all would be done. In terms of the condition, even if a thousandth, ten thousandth, hundred thousandth, or a millionth of it were achieved by the concerted effort of relatives over three generations—be they from the Kim clan, or the Park clan—all the people together will have achieved something unseen in the world before. God would be so amazed that He would hand over the actual rights of re-creation and say that He would not exchange what we have accomplished with this universe He has created. You should be determined to achieve this. God will not punish you for harboring such dreams in your heart. He won’t punish you. If anything, anything at all, is possible, you should go ahead and do it. Is that clear? [Yes.]…
What is the message I want to leave behind on this Chil Il Jeol? Would God be pleased, or be angry, if we offered to build for Him a kingdom of heaven that is greater than the kingdom of heaven on earth and in heaven that He created? [He would be pleased.]
So even though you may not be parents yet, it is the heart of a mother or father to see their sons and daughters become hundreds of times or thousands of times greater than they. This parental heart resembles God’s heart. Therefore, God will accept it with joy and will bestow blessings upon blessings on you all! Amen! [Amen!] Now! [Applause… three cheers of eog mansei.]
