Father’s Speech during 44th True Children’s Day celebration which was held on October 25, 2003
Since today is Children’s Day, heaven should present its sons and daughters with splendid gifts. What are these splendid gifts? They are the authority of the son, the authority of the son as a husband and the daughter as a wife, and the authority of the parents, who are in the position of loving their children. Then the parents who hold this authority must teach their children the responsibility that lies with authority, so that their children will understand the right to become ancestors of future generations. This is one of the things that we urgently need to teach our children, but we are still not fully prepared to do so.
What is today? [It is True Children’s Day.] Whose children are they? [The children of True Parents.] You must be clear on that point. Who comes first, the children of God or the children of True Parents? Without True Parents, there cannot be sons and daughters of God.
Even True Parents themselves need an owner. Can True Parents exist without an owner? We must return to the origin, the fundamentals. Returning to the fundamentals of the Unification Church, we call God the Cosmic Parent; and how do we address the True Parents of the Unification Church? [The Parents of Heaven and Earth.] The Cosmic Parent and the Parents of Heaven and Earth are the two pillars of the Unification Church. Just like the two pillars [of fire and cloud] that guided the Israelites in the wilderness.
What we want is peace. But does peace involve just one person, or two people, or many people? You cannot achieve it alone. The concept of peace presupposes that a subject has an object. Without an object, peace cannot exist. Isn’t it like that? It requires at least two or more for peace to exist.
There is something definitely wrong with a person if he desires peace for himself alone. And since the body and the mind are in a relationship, the body can rest in peace only if the body and the mind are united. If the body cannot rest, it cannot fight off illness and so may succumb to disease. That, in turn, causes the mind to become unwell. If the mind is not at rest, it becomes sick. You must resist sickness.
Anyone who has the desire to see peace before his body and mind are united is out of his mind! Without an object there cannot be any peace! Peace and unity! What comes after that? Even happiness cannot be achieved alone. You can only be happy if you are in a relationship. Home! When we speak of a home, do you picture a small house in which someone sleeps and eats alone? If you are alone, even the grandest castle filled with treasure and decorated with expensive furniture could never be a home. Homes involve families. Homes are where families can rest together. A person cannot make up a family.
From this point of view, we can see that the ideal aspects of life are always achieved through relationships. [Amen!] Do you think the Unification Church could have come this far if it had not known about peace and happiness? What about knowledge of the spiritual world that you have been taught in the church?
Media people! They are supposed to represent this era, and they claim to be people of the modern age, but they do not know anything about heaven. When you ask them who their ancestors are and where they came from, their answers vary from amoebas to monkeys. Have you ever heard anything so ignorant? They will never yield to anyone where the origin of species is concerned. Do you think a grasshopper and a cicada can mate and have locusts? Even if you prayed for that to happen for millions of years, and even if the whole creation in this world joined in that prayer, that would never happen.
The central figure must take responsibility. The central figures of the Unification Church must take responsibility for the whole of the Unification Church. The central figures must be protectors as well. If someone faces death, the parents of that person, the people who are responsible for that person, should be ready to die in his place. If the central figures are ready to do that, the organization, and the nations they are responsible for, will never go to ruin…
An owner must take responsibility. He must take responsibility for everything. If there is a beggar on the street, I must take off whatever I’m wearing and give it to the beggar.
Now! For whom were women born? They were born for their husbands and their sons and daughters, weren’t they? Women were born for their husbands and their sons and daughters! Is that right, or wrong? [It’s right.]
In that case, if you say you have become a wife to someone, if you have become a wife to the owner of a house, don’t you represent the household as well? Who is the most important representative1 of that household? The only person who can take the place of the father, the owner of the house, is the mother. And it is only the sons and daughters of the mother and the father that can represent them in their absence. If you are not their representative, you cannot inherit anything from them. Do you understand the meaning of the word “inherit”?
Now, speaking from a philosophical point of view, if you are asked who you are and you answer, “I am a representative,” that’s certainly worthy of a passing grade. You are a representative of your family, nation, heaven and earth—even the animal kingdom. You can stand as a representative of everything in the world. In that sense, you can be a representative of anything and everything; people were the only beings in creation that had the privilege of representing everything in the world.
Whom do people represent? We are the representatives of God, the Creator. Repeat after me, I am a representative of the universe! [I am a representative of the universe!] In that case, you can be a representative of God as well. Now, then, when God, who is the owner, asks for a representative, would He ask for someone who is millions of times better than He is, or would He ask for someone who is worse? What do you think? [He would want someone millions of times better than He.] That’s right. Whoever said that, that was a good answer! Representatives are people who wish to become billions of times better than their owners. Good answer!
Who do you think is the representative of the Unification Church? Rev. Moon is. Since Rev. Moon is in the position of the owner, when the time comes for him to choose a representative, whom do you think he would want as his representative? Would he want someone better or worse than he is? What do you think? [Someone better.] In that case, how many times better? [Billions of times!] Billions of times multiplied by billions of times, that would be enough, don’t you think?
That is the conclusion the whole world would reach in the end, isn’t it? Why do we need representatives? You need representatives in order to bequeath what you have to them. If Rev. Moon, after living like this, goes to the spiritual world before deciding on a representative, he would be a truly miserable person. That is because that would constitute a discontinuation of history. There would be no connection to the future. Why do we want representatives? People want representatives who are much better than they are in order to bequeath everything they have achieved to those representatives.
If a national system that educates people to make this a custom existed, sons and daughters would be representatives of the family, the family representative of the tribe, the tribe representative of the race, the race representative of the nation, the nation representative of the world, the world representative of the cosmos, and a holy son or daughter representative of God. This is how it would work.
Every owner wants his representatives to be better than he is. The owner should therefore teach his representatives how to be better than he is. Aren’t parents like that? Parents are always telling their children, “Go and study.” Why do you think that is? Is it because the parents want the children to be better than they are, or worse? Isn’t the first answer correct? Children, therefore, should obey what their parents tell them to do, because it is for their own good.
In the world of religion, there are many different denominations and religious bodies. Don’t you think you will stand in the center of all these churches and denominations if I teach you more about God then they can ever learn? God wants as His representative the person who will take responsibility for the position of the central figure, someone who knows more, and who puts into practice what he knows. People who know more but do not put what they know into practice are like trees that do not bear fruit. In the Bible, there’s a story of Jesus coming across a fig tree. He approaches the tree to see if it has any fruit, and when he finds that it doesn’t, he curses it so that it withers. Such a tree, even if it looks beautiful, is like a parasite. It is good for nothing.
The most important terms in the Unification Church are “Cosmic Parent,”2 “Parents of Heaven and Earth”3 and “Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind.”4 Among these names, what have you heard for the first time today? The Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind! It is not God’s ideal to become the Cosmic Parent, or Parents of Heaven and Earth, but to become Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind. That was one of God’s ideals of the Creation; it is His wish and desire. We haven’t realized that. Which is most precious among the three? [The Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind] These are very important words.
God, who does not have a form, wants to become the father of humankind. That was one of the aims of the Creation. We didn’t know about this until now. That is why I am declaring this for the first time today. Today is the 44th anniversary; 43 years have passed since the first Children’s Day. The time has come to teach you all. I have already taught you about the Cosmic Parent and the Parents of Heaven and Earth, but until now I haven’t taught you about the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind.
That is why I’m teaching you about this on this day of celebration. The Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind are the hope and desire of God and of True Parents. Now that there is no more that God can wish for, since He has become the Owner of heaven and earth as the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind, He has claimed His rightful position and has proclaimed that it is good. After realizing the fruit of reaching the ideal of the Creation, God has seen the fruit and has declared that it is good. After creating the universe, and Adam and Eve, didn’t God say when He saw them that they were good? It is the same thing.
We need the Cosmic Parent and the Parents of Heaven and Earth, but not one person knew about the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind. For the first time in history, I am teaching you about it today. Why? Since Adam and Eve could not be perfected centered on love, God could not be perfected, and the Parents of Heaven and Earth could not be perfected. Since love needed to be realized centered on humankind, God alone could not realize this love. Without love, even the Parents of Heaven and Earth cannot become whole, but must remain as only half of a whole, without an object. With God in the position of the mind, the True Parents in the position of the body, and you in the position of the third generation, you can become the seeds of the two sets of parents, and in time you will become fruit that can be harvested and stocked in the storehouse of heaven. That is why Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind are the most valuable of all.
When Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind come into existence, God will rejoice, the Parents of Heaven and Earth will rejoice and the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind will rejoice as well. And when you become the sons or daughters of Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind, you will enter the liberated era that will last forever and become the heirs to the right to become the lord and master of heaven and earth. And that is why Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind are the most important, and the best! Amen!
Think for a moment. What do you have to focus on to become parents? Which organ is central to your becoming parents? What is the wellspring of the parents? You must think in these terms. The central organ is none other than the love organ. Does God have a love organ? Why should He have one? Don’t you feel good if someone tells you that you look a lot like your son? Don’t you feel good if you’re told that you look a lot like your father? If God is our father, shouldn’t He have the same things His children have? If a father didn’t have the same organs as his children, something would definitely be wrong with him. That is only logical.
Therefore it is also only logical that the men and the women here, in one way or another, take after their own mothers and fathers. Accordingly, if your fathers and mothers did not have sexual organs, you could not have been born at all. There must be a motive, then a process, and finally, a result that corresponds to the motive. If you weigh the two, the motive and the result, they should balance.
Then when did the Fall occur? The Fall occurred when God had gone only midway down the path of love, on His way to finding love. Given that God is the first generation, He should have given birth to children who would have comprised the second generation; and the third generation should have been born to His children. In other words, this was the family framework, originally planned by God. However, He could not claim Adam and Eve, the second generation, as His children. Because of the Fall, Adam could not personify love, could not be a model son. In other words, he could not reach perfection. It was the same for Eve. She could not claim to be God’s daughter, because she did not reach perfection; she could not be a perfect woman….
What kind of a husband would you want? The answer is simple. You would want a husband who is very much like your father. That is because a woman knows only one man who has loved her, and that is her father. Is that right, or not? The only textbook a woman has on love is her father. After her father come her brothers. If a woman has a crippled father, though she may love her father very much, there is only so much she can love him. Therefore, a part of her heart would desire to express more love than she can give to her father. So if she were to meet someone who was not a cripple, she would think, “Oh, I could give that man more love than I can give my father.” She would feel this from deep within her heart.
It would be the same if a woman had a crippled brother. She would worry about him day in and day out, almost as much as she worried about her parents; and because thoughts of her brother would be so deeply embedded in her heart, she would think of her brother even when she was looking for her own husband, and so would look for someone who was quite like her brother. Do you understand?
Your spouse should be exemplary. He or she should set an example to others from an early age, in both good times and bad. He or she should be able to eliminate obstacles standing in your path so it becomes nice and smooth, and fill in deep holes gouged into your path so that it becomes flat and even. If you find someone who does that for you, someone who will do anything for you, you should marry that person. If you find someone who can do that, if he does whatever you ask, and if he fulfills the duties of a patriot to his nation, saint to the world, and holy son to heaven and earth, you should marry that person. If you find someone who always guides you in the right way, and tries to follow good examples set by others, you should marry that person without a second glance! Amen!
Since the origin of the Unification Church is God, and since God resides in the spiritual world, the spiritual world is our root. If you don’t understand this, you won’t be able to understand what the stem, the branch, the bud, the fruit and the leaf are. You must know the spiritual world.
The whole world has opposed me; they were all worked up about trying to get rid of me. Different nations and organizations did everything they could to eliminate me, but in the end they could not break me and gave up. Why? Because if the sun shines brightly, darkness cannot snuff out the light. If the darkness hurls itself against the light, the light remains intact while the darkness dissipates like smoke. It is the same in the presence of God.
The Unification Church was the first to declare the concept of the settlement of noon. At noon, no shadows are cast. When you are standing still at noon, you can see that the sun shines brightly, so brightly that even the glittering of diamonds and jewels would be nothing compared to that light, and yet there are no shadows, no darkness at all. In that light, all that is dark breaks apart, leaving not a trace. It is the same in God’s presence. Even the light of fireflies cannot shine out of the blackest darkness, but in God’s presence, the light emitted by God, the bright light that is hundreds of times brighter than the sun, absorbs all other kinds of light. You cannot fight it, because it absorbs every kind of light.
That is why you must believe what I say whole-heartedly, and be prepared to cross over the line of death if need be. You must be ready to sacrifice your lives and cross over the line of death to save fallen humankind. When you go fishing, don’t you use different types of bait to catch different types of fish? If you wanted something big, you would use bigger bait. In the same way, you should be ready to become the bait to save your nation, to be a greater bait for a greater cause.
You must stand firm and tell the world, “If you want to strike me, strike me!” Even the blackest darkness with strength surpassing all others cannot conquer light. You don’t know to what lengths Japan went to in order to uproot the Unification Church. Even in America they did all kinds of things to get rid of Rev. Moon, but to no avail. In the end, following Rev. Moon is everyone’s destiny.
Do you like Rev. Moon? [Yes.] Are you just saying that, or do you really mean it? Even I can’t tell whether you’re speaking from your heart, or faking it. You are the ones who should decide whether you mean what you’re saying. Otherwise, you’ll be in trouble. You should be able to decide for yourselves. You should also be able to experience the spirit world, so that you can be convinced that it does exist. In order to do that, you should have a bright mind. In the world of religion, being selfish and always wanting more for oneself than for others is dangerous. You will trip and fall on the way.
You will always be successful if you face the light and follow the path of the light, so that you stand perpendicular to the light and the light casts no shadow. How about in the future? The light of God’s love does not shine on today alone; it shines on the world of tomorrow and even on the world of infinity. No obstacle can block this light. The light of God’s love shines for thousands of miles all around, and so any work that is connected to this light and any work that reflects this light will succeed, even if it is opposed in every way.
On the basis of such experiences, Rev. Moon has declared many important things today. What did I speak of today? [The Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind!] The first point was the Cosmic Parent. What was the next? [The Parents of Heaven and Earth!] The Parents of Heaven and Earth, and what came after that? [The Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind!] It was the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind. Because of the Fall of Adam and Eve, God also fell. You must understand this. The Cosmic Parent fell, the Parents of Heaven and Earth fell and humankind fell. In other words, the whole world fell.
Why is this so? This is because humankind is the physical fruit of the Cosmic Parent and the Parents of Heaven and Earth. Why? The answer is that God alone cannot achieve the purpose of love. Since He does not have form, He cannot become the parent of people with physical bodies; He cannot bring those people to heaven and make them citizens of the heavenly nation. He cannot do any of this without the physical body.
That is why God needs the physical body. Without physical bodies, God cannot do anything in the physical world, in the real world. Any warnings and advice He might give would go unheeded. They cannot influence the physical world. For God’s warnings and advice to work in the physical world, they must come through a physical entity.
So why did God create the universe? He created the universe to realize His purpose for creating love, by forming His own family. Yet His family cannot be formed unless He becomes the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind. Since God’s family was not established before, the process of restoring His family has had to continue through the history of re-creation. Humankind has committed many wrongdoings through the years of re-creation until now and so must first indemnify those. Just as a criminal needs to serve time in prison for what he did, people must indemnify whatever wrongs they have committed before they can be restored.
Since people do not know how to indemnify their sins and how to re-create themselves, they cannot return to their original state. In the Unification Church, we have the principle of re-creation. We have the principles of the Creation, the human fall, and of the providence of restoration. We have principles that teach us how to reverse the fall, to return to our original state, and the law of indemnity. If something good happens, before you are done rejoicing you will be visited by Satan. If there is day, there is also night. That is the pattern.
That is why if you do something good, Satan follows you around. The only way you can block Satan from invading you is to set up a condition that you are indemnifying something bad that you have done, or that you might do. Before I do something, I make effort to the point that the condition set up is stronger than the test that Satan will bring—so that I do not have to pay indemnify later. If I indemnify something that will happen ten years hence, for ten years I will be free from carrying out any kind of indemnity.
That is why the path of restoration through indemnity involves making sacrifices again and again and again. Do you know how much God yearns for people who can represent the world of religion and indemnify individuals, families, tribes, races, nations, the world and even the UN? Deep inside His heart, God has hoped and prayed for such people, but since His prayer has not come true, He is in a worse position than He was before, and this cycle has been repeating for thousands of years.
Even if the Cosmic Parent and the Parents of Heaven and Earth are here among you, if three generations of a physical family cannot be established, what God has willed cannot be perfected. So you can see that the Cosmic Parent is the “mind” parent, whereas the Parents of Heaven and Earth are the “body” parents. Because of the fall, the mind and body are in constant conflict with each other. If, rather than fighting, your mind and body become one, you can become the grandchildren of God. The grandchildren of God can set up the formula, be the model and form a vertical line by centering on the trinity. But with just one son and one daughter, you cannot multiply greatly. You cannot have just one son and one daughter if you are the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind wanting the children of God to multiply far and wide.
Consider Adam and Eve who were created as the body of God: as God could create only one son and daughter, only one family could be formed. Based on three such generations, generations can continue to multiply for tens of thousands of generations, but if there is only one generation…. In other words, only if you have at least three children can you become Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind.
If everyone decided to have just one child, what would happen? If Adam and Eve had had just one son, where would they have found a wife for him? If everyone decided to have just one son, the human race would die out in the end. I am saying that if you want to be Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind, you must have at least three children. If you have three children, based on them, you can multiply; so in three generations you will have a big family that can become the center of the world….
In order to become Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind you need to have at least three sons and daughters. Having two sons and a daughter would be fine. With only one son and a daughter, you would be below the standard required to become the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind and to form nations and peoples. Since you don’t want to be below the standard, it is only logical that you would want to have three or more children.
Only by having three or more children can you become the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind. Only then can you stand in the presence of God as a well-balanced family, the three children balancing the top, the bottom and the center. God would embrace you and your children, and become one with you in the four-position foundation.
So, now that you have learned about the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind, you must work hard and do your best to bless all of your children, raising them all as if each one were an only child. Those who do so will have descendants to carry their name for tens of thousands of years to come. Amen!
This is the first point I wanted to talk about today. Then, what is the second? Now I have established a Peace UN. And I have also declared the Peace Kingdom. But for this to be possible, we must begin an Abel-type UN from the outset. The Abel-type UN is not intended to beat the Cain-type UN into submission. The Abel-type UN will move the heart of the Cain-type UN, so that the Cain-type UN will follow the Abel-type UN of its own accord. Abel cannot take his position if he does not save Cain. The Abel-type UN must save the Cain-type UN, make it follow to the Peace UN and the Peace Kingdom of God. That is the task before us…
The domain of the heavenly nation is individuals and families, but since individuals and families have been taken away from the UN, it has lost the owners who can set up the tradition in their nations.
We will not stand in the way of the UN it if it follows us. If it follows God’s will, we will cross the threshold of a world of peace together. Only when it becomes an Abel-type UN can it cross the threshold to the peace UN. Only when the whole world becomes a peace UN and forms a great family with God as the father can we all cross over into the palace of peace.
So, to put it simply, the second point I wanted to talk about is that once the UN becomes an Abel-type UN, it will then become a peace UN; and once there is a peace UN in place, the world will become a heavenly nation of peace. A speech I gave some time ago was entitled “The owners of Re-creation?” Do you remember? Who are the owners of re-creation? The individual is an owner, as is his family. Ever since His sons and daughters failed Him and were chased out of heaven into hell, God has been all alone, living by Himself. And so He has never had a chance to address anything as “our” something. Do you realize how tragic that is?
Even Adam and Eve were never able to use the word “our” in their relationship centered on love. How tragic that is! Our family! Now the time has come in which God can finally call His children His own. How can you call your family “our family” if you don’t raise children and bless them? It is impossible….
You must realize how sacreligious it is for God not to be able to use the word “our” to address His own family and nation. And so we must work hard to expand God’s nation on earth, with every tribe working hard to witness to and have their relatives, even the most distant ones, go through the engrafting process—be it an uncle, aunt, or so on. All the Kims should work hard to witness to their families, all the Lees to their own families, and so on and so forth.
If we continue to work hard, a day will come when we will be able to call this world “our world.” That term would include everyone. People’s greed is so great, that we want to claim everything as ours. We have enough desire in our hearts to claim everything God created as ours, and once we have become representatives of God and have inherited everything, we will claim everything God possesses is ours as well.
Now it will be like a marathon, for all of you, to see which tribe is the first to witness to all its family members and relatives, and to form a nation that could then be linked to the world. That is why tribal messiahs should work hard to bless their brothers and sisters, by force if need be, and to bless their mothers and fathers as well.
Thirdly, I want to teach you today about some of the themes on which I have been speaking since October this year and even before: The owners of re-creation, the elimination of national boundaries, and the Peace UN and a world of peace. If I were to call that a heavenly nation of peace, people would say, “Oh, the Unification Church, with all their talk of kingships and sovereignties, are now establishing a nation of their own with Rev. Moon as king.” So instead, I’ll call it a world of peace. Originally, it should have been the Peace Kingdom.
These three themes mentioned above are the goals we must accomplish in the Last Days. All of you must know this.
What is the point, then? You know as well as I do that you and your families do not have a palace of your own. What is the name of the ceremony I recently conducted? It was the Coronation of the King of the Blessed Families of the True Love, Peace and Unity of the Cosmic Parent and the Parents of Heaven and Earth. From there Adam would climb to the position of the family king, the tribal king, and finally to the position of the God of the cosmos. Since I have paved the way for him, Adam would pass through these stages as if riding an elevator. But he should still know which floor he is on, shouldn’t he? We must work hard to make sure that sovereignty is not cut off by preparing the position of the king of the clan. The footrace has now begun.
I’m sure each clan has a mountain designated as the mountain of the clan, but that is no longer enough. From now on you must be prepared to establish the palace of the clan wherever you are told to do so, be it in South America, the U.S., or even in a nation that is a candidate to become the third Israel.
Only then can you engraft into the whole world. You can engraft the kingship to the whole world. You do not understand what I am trying to say. You will understand what I mean in an instant once you are in the spirit world.
There are 275 Korean surnames, and that means 275 palace churches of the clans would need to be established. Then I would decide which palace church of a clan would represent me, whether it would be that of the Yoo family, the Lee family, the Lim family, the Park family, the Choi family or some other one. These clans would then be divided into twelve branches, and a person would be chosen as the leader of these twelve branches. That leader would become the heir to the throne of the king of Korea. From there, he would engraft the nation to the world, saying that he was engrafting our nation, Korea, in his name and reporting it in the presence of the Parents of the Cosmos, the Parents of Heaven and Earth, and the Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind!
You must climb up the ladder. The ladder that Jacob saw in a dream he had during his flight to Haran is the ladder you must climb. It is the ladder of individuals, families, tribes, and so on. Because all of you need to climb the ladder, it will get wider. At some point it will be too wide for my hands to steady it. The whole tribe will have to hold the ladder and steady it as others climb. The tribe will have to be united to do that.
So you must conduct intercultural marriages for the national boundaries to disappear. Two enemies with drawn swords should stop fighting, and say, “Since you have a daughter and I have a son, let’s stop fighting and become in-laws.” Then the fighting would stop, they would toast each other on their grand decision and laugh together. They must bless their son and daughter to live happily ever after; and they themselves would live in harmony. It is the fathers and the mothers who must break down the barriers between nations.
That is restoration through indemnity. Since false parents have set up these barriers, true parents must break them down. No one can oppose this once you are in the Unification Church. So stop boasting about yourselves. The only path that lies before you is the path of absolute obedience! Amen!
