Argentina: Peace Road 2020
Prepared by UPF Argentina
“An Argentina through Peace” was the motto of the sixth edition of the Peace Road held in Argentina on November 29, which proposed in the current context of social isolation a “virtual walk” through the 23 provinces, including the so-called “white continent of peace”: Antarctica.
At the opening there were messages from Rev. Dong Mo Shin, regional director of UPF and the Peace Road South America Foundation; and Dr. Silvia Giacoppo, National Senator for the province of Jujuy and a reference for Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) in Argentina; and greetings from members of the organizing committee.
During the journey from north to south of the country, each provincial institutional representative presented a Message of Peace and Hope from their commitment to the common good: solidarity, ecological, artistic, educational, interreligious, etc. In Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost province, the message was transmitted by the governor himself. It was a journey of learning and rediscovering the culture of each place and the natural beauty, which took exactly two hours. Activities were generated in several provinces: cycling, a solidarity day for the delivery of food in a deprived area and a special program with the discovery of a commemorative plaque to the Peace Road. At the end there were allusive words from Carlos Varga, president of the Federation of Families, and artistic numbers in the sense of celebration.
The Peace Road was declared “of interest for the promotion and defense of human rights” by the Legislature of City of Buenos Aires and several other cities in the country and by legislatures of each province.
