USA: Shine City Project
Six years ago, a group of volunteers organized a cleanup at the corner of Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard on March 16, 2013. The service project was held in front of Bonanza Gift Shop, which is popularly known as the “World’s Largest Gift Shop”. This occasion would mark the beginning for an organization whose goal would be to turn Las Vegas from “Sin City” to “Shine City”.
On Saturday, March 16, 2019, Shine City Project came together with CARP Las Vegas in commemoration of our 6th Anniversary! On this special day, our two organizations helped to add a fresh layer of paint to the CARP Learning Center while honoring the history of Shine City Project in Las Vegas.
In total, twenty-four volunteers came together for this special service project including many joining Shine City Project for the first time. After the walls finished receiving their new coats, lunch was provided at noon for all volunteers, and we gathered for a special Shine City Project presentation. Photos were shown from the earliest years of our organization including the first service project at the World’s Largest Gift Shop. After special recognition was given to volunteers who have participated in our service projects in the past six months, we concluded the occasion with a final group photo!
The service project not only brought back memories of the beginning of Shine City Project, but the beginning of CARP Las Vegas as well. Before CARP Las Vegas officially launched in the fall semester of 2014, a service project was led by volunteers of Shine City Project to help put together furniture and to paint walls for the CARP Center. Almost five years later, our two organizations reunited for this special occasion!
Shine City Project would like to express gratitude for all of the love and support our organization has received in the past six years! It wouldn’t have been possible without our Heavenly Parent and True Parents! We will continue to do our best to share love for Las Vegas and the world around us!
