Cameroon: Character Education Workshop
by Nchia Kamran, YSP Cameroon
Following the launching of YSP Cameroon, we proceeded by re-inviting some of the participants for a workshop on Character Education which took place on Saturday the 26th of January 2019 at the education center at Cite vert in Yaoundé from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 14 p.m. to 17 p.m.
There were 5 participants in the first session that began from 9 a.m. Amongst them were a pastor, 2 university students, a high school student and an automobile technician. Just when we concluded the first session, 2 young journalists arrived and we took the group pictures and had lunch together. After the lunch, the first group of participants left while we repeated the presentation for the 2 journalists. In both cases, the workshop began with the presentation of the vision, objectives and activities of YSP by NCHIA KAMRAN, the president of YSP. This was followed by a presentation of chapter 1 of the Four Family Loves Curriculum given by Mr. Ndode George, the Director of Education for YSP, “What does it mean to be good?” After the lectures, the participants were submitted to an exchange exercise in which each person was asked to explain what he/she would do to contribute towards realizing the vision of YSP. They were all proactive and positive in their suggestions which included creating YSP clubs in high schools, sensitizing youths in quarters/communities about pure love and reflection on peace design projects.
Also on Sunday at 2 p.m., we received a high school student who was at the launching ceremony and now came to find out about the Vision of YSP. So in total 8 youths were trained during the weekend. All participants left full of motivation and enthusiasm and we intend to continue with such workshops.
