Thailand: 1 Million Observed One Minute of “Silence for Peace”

UPF Thailand co-hosted with Ministry of Education of Thailand and Bangkok Metropolitan organized “Reading Peace Message and Silence Prayer for Peace on the International Day of Peace 2018” in Thailand nationwide in conjunction with the International Day of Peace (September,21). These activities begin since 2008 and receive more cooperation from government nationwide. UPF Thailand receive Peace Message from Gen.Prayut Chan-o-chan, Prime Minister of Thailand in recognition the work of UPF Thailand for peace since 5 years, Peace Message from Mr.Antonio Guterres and Peace Message from Gen.Terdsak Maromme, President of UPF Thailand and we sent these 3 messages to all schools of Thailand.
Every year we expect more than 3,000 schools and colleges and more than 1.2 million people attend this project every year. Last year, 21 September 2017, more than 2,000 schools sent report back to UPF Thailand office that more than 800,000 people attend the project. This year, UPF Thailand chose St.Gabriel school, one of the most prominent private school in Thailand to be the main school to organize this project with representative of Minister of Education of Thailand. This project makes UPF Thailand become well-known and receive well recognition and respect nationwide.
These activities are designed to remind young Thais of the importance of sustainable development for peace and aim to strengthen the ideals of peace within and among nations and peoples.
The main event was hold on Friday, September 21, 2018 at St.Gabriel’s College School, Bangkok, Thailand. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sopon Naphathon, Vice Minister of Education delivered the Message from Gen.Prayuth Chan-ocha, Prime Minister of Thailand, Gen.Terdsak Marrome, President, UPF Thailand, delivered the Message of peace of UPF Thailand, Ms. Maki Katsuno – Hayashikawa, Chief of Section for Inclusive Quality Education Representative, UNESCO delivered the UN Secretary General’s Message on the International Day of Peace, and student representative read UN Secretary General’s Message in Thai. Finally, all participants were invited to join 1-Minute Silence for Peace.
There had been various activities promoting peace organized in thousand schools before the International Day of Peace (September, 21) such as message, poem and painting contest including public services etc. 1 million thai people observed one minute of “Silence for Peace” were the national level for Universal Peace Federation, True Parents’ providential organization in Cheon Il Guk era.
