On Sunday 16 September 2018 Jean-Luc BERLET, 52-years old, died in a car accident in Brittany where he had gone to organize a conference. He was a former CARP Leader and a former Pastor of the Paris community. He had a PhD in philosophy and was the French correspondent for the Unification Thought Institute and Sun Moon University. He was a philosophy teacher and wrote several books. He founded a philosophy association in Paris, Accord Philo, and was giving a lot of talks in coffee shops and in the home of friends; that association has a branch in Britany, and he was often travelling in France, often going to Lille in the North of France where he regularly gave lectures at a Muslim association.

His parents, Irene and Adrien, 360,000 blessed couple, his wife Young-Shil (they belonged to the 30,000 couples blessing of 1992) and his 24-year-old daughter Deborah, organized a ceremony on Friday 21 September at 3 p.m. at the Lutzelbourg Catholic Church. It was a very profound and solemn ceremony; after the burial at the cemetery, they organized a warm party with coffee and cakes in a nearby hotel. Jean-Luc’s mother, Irene, was especially outstanding, showing a smile though her pain was immense.

She expressed that she felt the sudden departure of her son had something to do with the Providence, and as True Parents offered Heung Jin Nim, she offered Jean-Luc and did not want to show her sadness so that Jean-Luc can move on freely and happily to his new mission in the spirit world.

On Sunday 23 September 2018, we held a memorial Seonghwa service at the Paris Education Center. The center was packed from early morning with brothers and sisters. The ceremony was beautifully conducted by Alexander Huard, with Didier Guignard leading the songs. There were testimonies and an offering of flowers from all participants, then Dr. Otsuka, representing our True Parents, gave an inspiring talk concerning the necessity of accepting God’s will, especially on hardship, and on the meaning of the Seonghwa itself.

After the ceremony everyone could greet Jean-Luc’s wife and daughter, who, though tired and overwhelmed, kept a beautiful heart. There was a buffet, and we all stayed a long time, sharing about our dear brother Jean- Luc.
