Taiwan: Inaugurations of IAPP and IAPD

More than 180 political and religious leaders participated in the launching ceremonies for the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) on May 19, 2018, in Taipei, Taiwan. The ceremonies were held in conjunction with a forum on the theme: “The Responsibility of Political and Religious Leaders in Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time.”
Participants in the event, held at Howard Civil Service International House, included legislators, members of the Taipei City Council, religious leaders, representatives from government and public sectors, women and community leaders. Mr. Chen Tuo Huan, President of UPF-Taiwan, emphasized the potential effectiveness of collaboration between the political and religious spheres, uniting their strength and wisdom to foster peace and harmony in society. He likened the roles of IAPD and IAPP to those of mind and body, and stressed the necessity of their cooperation.
Three honored guests – the Hon. Poya Chang, President of the Control Yuan; the Hon. Manli Chen, Legislator; and Ven. Minyi, President of the Buddhist Youth Association – hit the gong to mark the successful launch of the IAPP and IAPD. This was followed by seven speakers, who offered valuable insights and thoughtful commentaries based on the theme.

- Former legislator Lu Hsueh-chang was appointed as Honorary Chairman of IAPP-Taiwan
- Current legislator Kuan Bi-ling was appointed as Honorary Advisor of IAPP-Taiwan
