Indonesia: Peace Road 2017

Indonesia successfully organized Peace Road 2017 on Sunday, November 3rd, 2017 in the Car Free Day Area as the venue. This area is the main road near the historical National Monument, situated in the heart of Jakarta city, where motorists are encouraged to give up their cars for cycling and walking from 6 am to 11 am. Beside registered participants, the event was open for passersby, such as cyclists and walkers to join the event. All together about 130 registered participants participated in the Indonesia Peace Road 2017, Connecting the World through PEACE.

Mr. Iksan HB from the Office of President Special Envoy for Middle East and Organization of Islamic Cooperation was the guest of honor while representing UPF were Mrs. Ursula McLackland, secretary general of UPF Asia, Mr. David McLackland, Education Director of UPF Indonesia, Mr. Alfred RF, secretary general of UPF Indonesia, and Ir. Rr. Herawaty Paeran and Mr. Mustofa Kamal, UPF Ambassadors for Peace.

Guiding the event is Mr. Alfred RF, Secretary General of UPF Indonesia, as master of ceremony announcing the prepared program of the event. Indonesian National Anthem was sung by all attendees marking the beginning of the program, followed by an opening prayer offered by Mrs. Herawaty Paeran, an Ambassador for Peace. Mr. Alfred continued with a brief explanation about Peace Road project that had been going on worldwide as well as the importance of connecting the people to be one world family. Afterwards, all the participants enjoyed morning exercise through performing a folk dance called “Maumere Dance” accompanied with its exciting and lively music stimulating all people in the surroundings to join along with the dance.

Before signing the Peace Road Banner, Mr. Iksan stated the importance of this event and how we should maintain peace and support the effort of security and development in the national level as well as in the world level. He encouraged and supported UPF in its efforts to foster peace through this project and many other occasions.

Mrs. Ursula McLackland from UPF side briefly greeted all the participants through her exciting and powerful speech mixing with local language which attracted cheers from the crowd.

After the Peace Road Banner signing, Mr. Iksan flagged the Peace Road participants who lined-up in front of the government building of Technology Assessment and Implementation Body at MH Thamrin street. The marching started with a group of cyclists and group of walkers together with each group took the distance around of approximately 3.4 km and 1.4 km respectively until the marchers arrived at the same venue where it started as the end of the route. The program was concluded with door prizes which brought excitement to the participants and they look forward to similar or other events of UPF in the future.
