Philippines: First Youth and Students Assembly

On November 16 and 17, 2017 in Lingayen, Pangasinan, around 430 youth leaders gathered for a two days Youth Assembly. The participants were coming from various universities, colleges and high schools near and far. This 2-day assembly, dubbed as Youth and Students Assembly is a maiden project of the Youth and Students for Peace in the Philippines which was just officially registered in the Philippine government 26th of October 2017. This event was made possible due to the initiative works of the IAPP Philippine President, Hon. Congressman Leopoldo Bataoil, and YSP-Philippines Chairman Dr. Julius Malicdem. It was co-organized by CARP-Philippines, Province of Pangasinan and the Universal Peace Federation Philippines. It was supported by the Department of Education of Region 1 and Pangasinan State University.
The first day was a conference, composed of five (5) sessions with various presenters and speakers, aimed to educate, empower and call the youth to action for the nation-building. The student leaders who came with their teachers and advisers were mostly Officers of the Student Government in their schools. The response was overwhelming from both the students and the teachers. Dr. Julius Malicdem, YSP Chairman gave the Keynote Address in the opening session, outlining the role of the youth as significant stakeholders in shaping our nation and the world. Prof. Celestino Jose Navalta, UPF Vice President, presented in the second session.
After the sumptuous lunch and an exciting icebreaker, Dr. Venus Agustin presented the topic Role of Martial Arts in Nation-building entitled, “Zero to Hero Project”. Then, IAPP-Philippines President, Congressman Leopoldo Bataoil gave an inspirational talk. Afterward, CARP-Philippines Secretary General, Mr. Errol Delmonte presented on CARP Programs on the topic,“Heart for Volunteerism and Environmental Protection as one of UN’s Sustainable Developmental Goals”. The last session was the Pure Love Education, presented by Prof. Richell Jalipa, followed by the Pledge of Purity of 430 participants. Also, the 20-million signature campaign to end the HIV-AIDS and Teen-age pregnancy was introduced and participants signed and pledged to promote it too in their respective.
The following day started early with the Pure Love Program at 7am headed by Ms. Kristine Rabaño, Pure Love Director in the Philippines. At 8am, almost a thousand students marched on the main streets of Lingayen, shouting the slogans and raising the banners of Pure Love. Then, the introduction video of YSP was played. Afterwards, Prof. Jalipa presented the Pure Love Education in front of the 1,400 crowd, youth leaders coming mostly from Pangasinan. It was followed by the phenomenal Pure Love Pledge. The hall suddenly was filled with high and pure energy. Everyone felt the great hope swelling from within. Our VIPs were all awe-stricken. They saw the high-level of quality in our programs. A staff from the office of the provincial governor, who was initially hesitant of our organization due to past persecutions, was transformed. She was so inspired and asked us to come often.
To commence the main event, Dr. Julius Malicdem gave the opening message. Then, Asia-Pacific Group Chairman Dr. Chung Sik Yong gave a very impressive, passionate and powerful Keynote Address. Our VIPs and youth leaders were much moved. Then, the Trustees and Officers of YSP-Pilipinas was officially inducted by Cong. Bataoil and Dr. Yong. The congratulatory message was delivered by the Commissioner of National Youth Commission, Assistant Secretary Ronald Cardema. He we very inspired and impressed with YSP and assured everyone that he will report this significant event to the Philippine President Duterte. Then, Cong. Leopoldo Bataoil also gave a Special Message. Though the program was overtime, participants were glued inside the hall due to the high level of energy. Everyone was high and filled with great hope. WCARP-Phil President, Mr. Rene Lansangan gave the concluding remarks. The victory party was hosted by Hon. Cong. Bataoil.
