Togo: Peace Road 2017
By Sassou Koussougbo, FFWPU Togo
We held our event on August 18, 2017 in Lomé. And it started in the morning around 9 am instead of 6 am. This is due to the latest security measures required by the national police of Togo.
It is important to point out that our country is under political tension. So all the public demonstrations on the public are strictly forbidden. It is in this situation that Peace Road 2017 in Togo received a special authorization at the last minute from the Ministry of Security and Civil Protection.
The event began in the public square called Freau Jardin by the departure of the cyclists. We traveled 7 kilometers from the city with peace messages on banners and small flags. The arrival was on the esplanade of the congress palace which is the seat of the TOGO parliament. There, we were welcomed by a delegation of six members of parliament, one of whom represented the President of the National Assembly of Togo.
Deputy David Bankati in his speech for the occasion said the idea of peace road is a manifestation of the wonderful initiative of Dr. Moon who is a key actor for world peace. National leader Sassou Koussougbo took the opportunity to say that true peace begins first in an individual then in the family and then in the nation. He therefore invited each person to work for peace. For it is said: Blessed are those who work for peace, they shall be called sons of God.
The event ended with a small celebration.
