Peace Ambassador Meeting at the Peace Bridge
UPF Upper Austria hosted on 1. 7. 2017 a Peace Ambassador Meeting at the Peace Bridge in front of the Forestry Museum in Reichraming
by Mag. Maria Pammer, UPF Austria
The Peace Bridge was built in 2009 by a group of young people from Israel, Palastine and Austria. In spite of the difficult relationships in the Middle East, the group managed to complete the project together and build friendships with one another.
Over the following years, numerous moving meetings, readings and peace celebrations took place at this bridge.
Now, 8 years later, 24 people gathered together, 9 of which were Peace Ambassadors who contributed in making the project a success. A video documenting the background story of the peace bridge and the intense week had by the young Israelis, Palastinians and Austrians, deeply moved all who were present. Individuals shared their deep experiences from that time which awakened a strong sense that this place should once again find a renewed purpose.
We were able to share, plan and amongst the beautiful nature enjoy freshly made “Holzfäller-Nocken.”
A number of ideas for how the peace bridge and forestry museum could be used as a place of peace and sustainability education were conceived and the next steps agreed upon.
