Indonesia: National Tour 2016 – 2017

UPF Indonesia resumed its National Tour on the theme “Building Harmonious Families-Our Shared Responsibility” and is going to complete the remaining 12 provinces within the first half of this year.
March 11, 2017 – Bandung, West Jawa Province
The first program of the UPF Indonesia National Tour in 2017 was organized by the members of the Muhammadiyah Student Organization (IMM) West Jawa. On March 11, 2017, over 200 students from various social and educational institutions in Bandung gathered at the auditorium of the Teachers Union of Indonesia full of excitement to participate in this International Character Education Conference.
The program began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an and report by the organizing committee chairman. Immawan Wilson Sanheinizh from the IMM Central Board encouraged the participants to seek happiness rather than just money. After the Chairman of Muhammadiyah West Jawa gave the Opening Remarks, Mrs. Muthiar Umar, Lecturer of the Muhammadiyah women’s wing “Aisyiyah” West Jawa, explained in depth the Muslim view on how to build harmonious families.
After an introductory video on UPF International, Mr. Alfred Forno, Secretary General of UPF Indonesia, introduced all participants to the vision and activities of UPF Indonesia. Mrs. Ursula McLackland, Secretary General, UPF Asia, explained the UPF Founder’s teaching that the proper mind-body and man-woman relationship is the foundation for a happy and harmonious family life. She also introduced the concept of Absolute Sex as the solution to the Free Sex culture that is also invading Indonesia, especially among the youth.
After a lively Q & A session, all participants rose from their seats and pledged to keep absolute purity until marriage and absolute fidelity after marriage. The Founder of Peace Generation, Mr. Irfan Amali, was then appointed as an Ambassador for Peace. An IMM music band entertained the participants during their lunch while the young UPF volunteers enjoyed taking photos as this was their first visit to Bandung.
March 18, 2017-Palembang, South Sumatra
The IMM organizing committee in the next province of South Sumatra was eager to meet the UPF team and welcomed us at the hotel soon after our arrival. The program was held in the prestigious Palembang City Council Hall with the full support from the Chairman of the City Council, Mr. H. Darmawan, who stayed for the entire program from beginning to end.
The committee had made painstaking preparations to introduce us to the beautiful culture of South Sumatra: Palembang used to be the capital of the powerful Sriwijaya kingdom over 1,000 years ago and until today the people proudly wear their traditional costumes on special occasions. The emcees, beautifully dressed, spoke in Indonesian, English and Arabic. Students of Muhammadiyah University Palembang gave us a taste of the intricate movements and gracefulness of their dances. A colorful Muhammadiyah high school choir led all participants in singing the National Anthem as well as the marches of both Muhammadiyah and IMM.
Following a speech by the City Council Chairman, Mr. Helmi Ibrahim, Vice Chair, Muhammadiyah Palembang City addressed the audience of 200 participants from various schools and universities as well as other walks of life. The panel of guest speakers consisted of the Rector of Muhammadiyah University, Mr. Alfred Forno and Mrs. Ursula McLackland whose presentations stimulated a number of questions from the floor. The Ambassador for Peace Awards were presented to two outstanding individuals:
- Hon. H.M. Giri Ramanda N. Kiemas, Chairman of the Regional Parliament of South Sumatra
- Dra. Hj. Darmi Hartati, Chair of the Central Board of Aisyiyah South Sumatra
The program concluded with the Pure Love Pledge and presentation of certificates of appreciation to the UPF presenters.
