Italy: Inugration of International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace
By UPF/WFWP Italy
The theme for our event as a major conference was IN-TRAINING – MULTICULTURALISM, POLITICS AND CIVIL SOCIETY: Synergies, Training and Projectuality, which was held on September 13th 2016 at the palace hall of the Italian parliament (San Macuto hall).
From 9:30 a.m., until 7 p.m., we gathered with a very high level audience of 63 guests, including parliamentarians and other politicians, academics, leader of NGO, journalists, Presidents of important institutions. A kind of elite group that we can definitely say belonging to the main stream.
The occasion was proposed and offered by one Italian Parliamentarian, Hon. Eleonora Bechis, who attended the recent Inauguration of the European chapter of the Association of Parliamentarians for Peace. Being enthusiastic about her experience in London, even before coming back, she requested one of the most beautiful and important halls in the parliament: an Italian meeting that could act as “eco initiative”.
The location was the one were parliamentarians discuss the new laws. Carlo Zonato, Pres. of UPF, Elisabetta Nistri, President of WFWP, Giuseppe Calì, President of FFWPU gave an overview of the vision of Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon. Gabriella Mieli, vice President of WFWP, as MC of the event, read a speech of Mrs. H.J. Han Moon.
Several other speeches were presented on various topics: Peace and mass migrations, Family, Peace and sustainable development, the Women’s role in preventing radicalization, and finally some case studies on good practices of our peace federations. Giorgio Gasperoni, UPF leader of San Marino, spoke about some recent projects in cooperation with Italian and Israeli movements and Umberto Angelucci, UPF Regional director for Middle Est, gave us a meaningful testimony of his work in Afghanistan. Particularly significant was the speech given by Hon. Elena Centemero who, not being able to go to London, presented a paper on human rights, to confirm her will to cooperate with us. Hon. Roberto Rampi gave an overview of the meeting in London.
The conference was really full of contents, deep discussions and suggestions, but also full of hope, good will and spirit
All participants offered their cooperation to develop the association of parliamentarians and the federation for peace.
