Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, founders of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, have had a close relationship with former Congressman Dan Burton since 1970. Dan Burton served in the U.S. Congress for 20 years. From 1983 to 2013, he worked as a Republican member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and served as Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Rev. Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon had a mutual understanding with Burton about “Victory over Communism.” Congressman Burton, who had been pointing out the issues of Communism in the area of freedom and human rights through America’s Anti-Communism group “Captive Nation,” had a common denominator of Anti-Communism with Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. Following Rev. Moon’s speech in Miami, as well as the gathering of 50,000 people at the Yankee Stadium Rally in June, 1976, Congressman Burton became a great supporter and believer of Rev. Moon’s goals of Anti-Communism and peace.

Communism can be seen as the enemy of religion.

Communism denies the existence of God.

Congressman Burton supports President Reagan’s peace ideal. To summarize, it is the theory that “Where there is strength, there is peace.” Congressman Burton also helped the Washington Times newspaper, owned by FFWPU, spread its conservative message throughout the political arena.

“The Washington Times runs a project called, ‘fact-finding trip.’ U.S. Congressman and U.S. Chief Delegate for the North Korean nuclear Six-Party talks, Christopher Hill, went to the DMZ in Korea. North Korean soldiers are watching us through the Panmunjom window.” Because the Anti-Communism movement is internationally renowned, they couldn’t travel to North Korea or Cuba.

Rev. Michael Jenkins, Times Holdings Group CEO, explained, “President Reagan quoted and discussed the Washington Times. President Bush also read the Washington Times and became close with Rev. Moon. In particular, England’s prime minister paid attention to the Washington Times’ conservative voice.”

Congressman Burton and his wife have participated in FFWPU’s Blessing Wedding ceremonies several times. They even participated in the ceremony in Seoul. “We renewed our vows, and although I was already a great husband, I became an even greater husband.”

“Rev. Sun Myung Moon also emphasized the value of family. Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon is following the same path. Their daughter (FFWPU International President Sun Jin Moon) is the same. America does not value the family in this way. It isn’t uncommon for a single woman to raise her children, but this can be a factor that contributes to the rise in social crimes. No one is teaching the value of family. Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon teach morals, such as the value of family, the importance of marriage and how to raise children. If the value of family is not taught, crime will increase and it will ultimately lead to the rise of war in each nation.

Congressman Dan Burton stepped onto the stage at the 40th anniversary of Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon’s Yankee Stadium Rally in Tarrytown, New York on June 5, referring to Rev. Moon as “Father Moon,” Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon as “Mother Moon,” the two of them as “True Parents,” and calling for love, peace and freedom.

As a Republican, he supports Donald Trump for President. He doesn’t think that Trump will hurt the Korea-U.S. alliance because “Korea is extremely important to America.” He remarked, “All Trump wants to do is create a strong America because American military strength has declined.”

Congressman Burton is also close friends with former Hollywood comedian and actor Johnny Yune, auditor of the Korea Tourism Organization.
