Peru: UN International Day of Families 2016
By UPF Peru, Trevor Jones: We celebrated the UN International Day of Families in the 3rd week of May by holding 3 events in Lima HQ, the city of Trujillo and the Peruvian Congress.
The first meeting on the 15th of May was held in the HQ of the Family Federation and the UPF in Miraflores, Lima together with members of the Family Federation.
Mr. Alberto Florido, National Leader, gave a presentation on the value of the family according to the Divine Principle.
Rev. Trevor Jones, President of UPF Peru, presented awards to 3 families in recognition of their hard work in the past year devoted to Home Group and Family Centre activities. Later the members of CARP made a theatrical presentation based on a story from True Father. The meeting concluded with a celebratory luncheon.
On Thursday 18th of May in the district of Esperanza, Trujillo, regional representatives of the UPF held a meeting in the Civic Centre, co-sponsored by the local Mayor. During the event there was a ceremony giving recognition to couples who had accomplished more than 30 years of married life. Each of them gave testimony to their lives and to how the teachings of True Parents had helped them strengthen their family relationships.
Finally, concluding this week of activity on Friday 20th May the UPF, with the cooperation Congressman Dr. Yonhy Lescano we held a meeting in the Congress in a historical room dedicated to renowned Peruvian naval officer and hero of the Naval Battle of Angamos during the War of the Pacific (1879–1884)- Admiral Miguel Grau.
Dr. Lescano opened the meeting, sharing with the audience the problems that Peru faces at the moment due to dysfunctional families.
Keynote speakers also included the President of the Hindu Ashram in Lima, who gave some interesting insights into marriage traditions in India.
Dra Patricia Contador emphasized the need for all of us to recognize and understand the message of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
UPF President Trevor Jones shared some words of Rev Moon, emphasizing love, life and lineage as key factors in the creation of strong and stable families.
Also various committee presidents of the UPF Peace Council in Peru gave reports about their activities and plans for 2016.
The meeting concluded with an invitation to the Ambassadors for Peace to join the committees and help UPF Peru contribute more to the restoration of our nation.
