Together One Amsterdam – with Heart and Soul
By UPF Netherlands, Sadikoen Wirjoredjo: UPF Netherlands was invited to take part in an event called “Samen een Amsterdam, met hart en ziel – One Amsterdam together with heart and soul”. It took place in the heart of the historical center of the Dutch capital, surrounded by the royal palace and the national monument on 4th October 2015.
The goal of ‘One Amsterdam together’ was to show the diversity of Amsterdam and its people. There are more than 170 nationalities living together with different religions, cultures and backgrounds.
We started early morning with building up our stand, which was a piece of art, a construction of bamboo, called a dome. I was helped by two friends of mine, who are attending DP lectures regularly. They are refugees from Iran and Syria. We were joined later, after the start of the event, by enthusiast 1st and 2nd gens. All in all 31 members participated throughout the day.
There were a total of 12 domes. Some of them were shared with 3 groups. For example: the Jews, Muslims and Christians were together in one dome. UPF shared their dome with the Brahma Kumaris and the Holy Fire West, a Christian denomination.
City mayor Mr. Eberhard van der Laan is receiving True Father’s autobiography
The Mayor Mr. Eberhard van der Laan opened the event at 12.00 pm with the words “I am not religious but liberal” together with him came the Deputy Mayor and the district president. The appearance of three city official shows the importance of this event. The Mayor than visited all the 12 bamboo domes to meet and talk with the different religious representatives, and when he came to UPF’s dome, YES, I could hand him True Fathers autobiography.
There was a podium where all groups could present a piece of music, dance etc. We were happy to present our second Gen Grace van Dorsten, singer and songwriter. She gave a great performance with her self-written songs “Queen of the Homeland”, “Message of the Moon” and “Together”.
The event was a real success, we were able to meet people, share our vision, give out 300 flyers, and inspire others and ourselves.
